During the last week of April 2017 our staff and pupils continue to work very hard each day.

Our Primary 6 pupils have created fantastic ‘buddy books’ to give to their buddies who will be starting Primary 1 at St. Mary’s in August. The books tell their buddies all about them and what to expect when they start primary school.  Our Primary 6 pupils can’t wait to meet their buddies on the P1 Induction Days in May!

Room 8 attended Holy Family Parish Centre in Mossend for their First Holy Communion Retreat on Thursday.  They had a lovely, peaceful day and are now fully prepared to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist on Saturday, 13th May.

It was lovely to have Mrs. Cotter in school on Friday in Room 11.  Mrs Cotter is currently on Maternity Leave and will return to school in August.  We have missed her friendly face around the school and it’s lovely when she comes in to visit for the day!  Another friendly face visited us this week – it was great to see Mrs McLeod looking fit and healthy.  We look forward to her returning to school this term.

Thank you for reading my weekly blog about what is happening in our school,

Our pupils returned for Easter Week after having a lovely Easter holiday.  Primary 5 had no time to settle in as they took part in Hamilton Schools Rugby Festival organised by Hamilton Rugby Club and SLC Active Schools!  The pupils had a great morning playing ‘touch rugby’, learning skills with lots of other schools.

Room 7 also ventured out this week for their First Communion Retreat.  Pupils in St. Mary’s preparing for sacraments go to Holy Family in Mossend to take part in a day of reflection, conversation and meditation organised by Motherwell diocese.  The children had a wonderful day.  Room 8 will experience the retreat next week, ensuring that all of our Primary 4 pupils are thoroughly prepared for this special Sacrament.

We had our Parent Council meeting on Wednesday night.  I am extremely grateful to our Parent Council, who support our school so well.  Approximately 26 parents were in attendance at the meeting, which is a fantastic amount to promote discussion on matters important to our school.

Our Parental Survey closed on Friday.  90 responses were made to the survey, representing 112 pupils.  The results and comments of the survey will be given to parents in the next newsletter.  Thank you very much to everyone who took the time to complete the survey, it really makes a difference to us and helps us move the school forward together.

Our week finished with 4 of our Primary 4 pupils representing the school at the Hamilton Schools Tennis Festival on Sunday at Hamilton Tennis Club.  The boys had a great morning, taking part in 10 games of tennis each!  SLC Active Schools work in partnership with many local clubs to develop sporting skills in our pupils.  We are also very fortunate that Hamilton Tennis Club volunteer every Thursday lunchtime in our school to work with Primary 3 pupils.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read our blog and find out what we have been up to during the school week.  Remember photographs from our week are on Twitter!

Thanks,

Mrs. Elaine Fitzpatrick
