Primary 6/7

Mr Straiton and Primary 6/7

Hi everyone and welcome back after what I hope has been a good break for you all.

This term we will be continuing on the good work that has been done in all areas of the curriculum. In our Literacy our spelling programme will continue to run as normal. The words we practise of course, will be ever more challenging for the children so any help they can receive, whether this be a practise test on a Thursday night before the Friday test in school would be beneficial for the children. We have begun our new novel study – Kensuke’s Kingdom – and chapters will be set every week as we endeavour to complete this great book by term 2. Our writing will also be tied into the book as we take inspiration from the story itself.

In Numeracy the children have been building on their number knowledge to tackle more challenging problems. We will also be multiplying and dividing. Our Number Talks programme will continue where the children are invited to solve calculations and discuss their methods for others to learn from. We will look into more complex symmetrical patterns in both mathematics and art.

In Social Studies the children have expressed an interest in looking into the history of Scotland, which we will cover as the year progresses. However, to begin with we have also discussed the idea of the geography of the world, including the oceans and continents, which also links very well to our Novel study.

Homework will be explained and issued on a Monday, however children may receive extra work to practise or games to play, especially in the area of learning times tables.

PE days will be Wednesdays and Thursdays once Bikeability is completed.

All that’s left to say is, let’s have a truly amazing year together and endeavour to ‘Show Respect’, ‘Try Hard’, and ‘Be Kind’!

Thanks for your continued support

Mr Straiton
