Primary 2/3/4

Term 3 – Primary 2/3/4 with Ms Kelly

We are learning all about Scotland this term. We will be using a selection of information texts to find facts, take notes and share information about Scottish landscapes, famous people, landmarks, travel, food and heritage. We will also explore Scottish music, Scottish art, poetry and language. We will be going out and about in the village to explore the local landscape, take soil and stone samples and collect any litter/debris.

Each child in the class will have the opportunity to choose and recite a poem, create a model of a Scottish castle, speak/read/write in Scots and develop a sense of Scotland’s place in the wider world. We will be going on a bus to our nation’s capital city on our school trip and hope to spot some of the landmarks we have learned about.

In literacy, we will continue to develop our phonics using active literacy strategies. Each literacy group are following their own learning pathway and will continue to use the ‘Talk for Writing’ program. Each child will be creating their own imaginative story book to read to a younger child. Reading books will be given each week to improve reading fluency and tasks in the classroom are designed to help the children demonstrate their understanding of the book. Pupils will be using a lot of non-fiction text related to their topic and taught how to take notes and create sentences for factual information.

In numeracy, the class will continue to discuss maths through the ‘number talks’ program. This term pupils will revise multiplication and counting in groups. We will then look at how division is the opposite of multiplication and consolidate our learning of the tables. We will share/divide objects and use computing games to reinforce the learning. Pupils will also be learning about angles, compass points and directional language.

We are all trying hard with our new years ‘drive for 2025’ promises.

In health and wellbeing, we are learning about the bones in the body and why we have a skeleton. We then explore how our body can move and travel, creating sequences to perform in gymnastics and learning how to use gymnastic equipment safely. Pupils will aim to get better control of their balance and co- ordination, as well as building stronger core muscles.

Primary 3 pupils are very lucky to be getting the chance to swim this term too!

We continue to try to show respect to one another, to be kind and to always try hard.
