Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s First Taste Of Scottish Culture

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s First Taste Of Scottish Culture

As we all know, climate change is no laughing matter.

However, even in the moments when the world is facing disaster after disaster, there are many well known public figures out at COP26 who are striving for change in any way that they can! World leaders from all over the globe travel into our beloved home country – Scotland – to experience and to have their say on the life changing decisions being made throughout these two exciting weeks of negotiations.

For many of the spokespeople attending COP26, it will be their first time crossing the borders into our land, and this journey will allow many of them to experience different parts of our culture – because it is important to balance business with pleasure.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known by her initials AOC, is an American politician and activist. She has served as the U.S representative for New York since 2019, as a member of the Democratic Party. She clearly has managed to do a lot of amazing things in her career, but we as a nation were shocked when she revealed that she had never even taken a single sip of Scotland’s most well known fizzy drink despite having visited Scotland before.

AOC’s Views

Naturally, we expected her to fall in love with the drink but what we didn’t know would happen is that a drink that has ‘tasted like home‘ for many of Scotland’s people actually brought back the exact same feeling for Alexandria! She made a statement on the Social Media platform ‘Instagram’ via a video for her followers documenting her first encounter with the vibrant and iconic blue and orange can.

In the video, she says: “Okay, guys. I found it. Irn Bru, let’s see how it is. Ready?”

“Okay, so it’s orange. Okay, here we go.”

As she raises the can and braces herself for the flavours of Scotland, AOC announces an unexpected comment on the taste familiarity: “This tastes like the Latino soda – Kola Champagne. Have you had Kola Champagne? I don’t know whether it’s Dominican or Puerto Rican … this tastes just like a Puerto Rican soda. This is Kola Champagne.”

She mentioned in a comment after this experience that this was in fact a drink from her childhood she grew up with and that she was pleasantly surprised at just how similar they were. The excitement in AOC’s voice proves that this may just be the highlight of her COP26 experience.

Alexandria’s Post-Sip comment via Instagram: “Upon further tasting, it’s not EXACTLY like Kola Champagne (or Inca Kola) but it’s in a similar family of flavor. I was so shocked at having something in Glasgow that tasted like home however Irn Bru is also very unique on its own. It’s got pizazz. I like it! Will bring some cans home to NY for sure! Cheers”

We are delighted with this outcome and are so pleased that we were able to make her feel at home in our home and that we are all working so hard to make a better place through doing everything that we can to tackle climate change.

If this teaches us anything it can teach us that no matter all of the worries that every person from every culture faces, when taking on the huge responsibility of looking after our planet , Irn Bru will always be there to “GET YOU THRU!”
