Why Our Generation?
The effects of climate change solely effect Generation Z and those younger – that’s why it’s our responsibility to advocate and make change for our planet Earth.
On one hand, studies have found that Scotland has the highest rate of empathy within youngsters. Empathy means to understand what people are going through; to walk in their shoes. This showcases the sensitivity Scottish youngsters have for those suffering from the effects of global warming. On the other hand, Scottish youngsters have also told the study that they feel powerless and have no way to voice their opinions.
Despite how teenagers feel, we DO have a say and it is our opportunity to stop global warming in its tracks.
Gen Z is renowned for being ‘advocates for change’. Multiple protests have occurred in the streets of Glasgow that push for action. These events were organised and attended mainly by younger people. Greta Thunberg is a young ambassador for this behaviour.
Global Warming. Ugh as if!
As youngsters, we are fortunate to have access to a wide range of news and media. With the technology of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram we can receive and share world news.
There are downfalls of the internet, though, as fake news can be easily spread and comments can be made with no consequences. However, social media sites are making good process to fix this. For example, Facebook and Twitter alerts users if posts and tweets contain inaccurate information.
“You must always have faith in people. And most importantly, you must have faith in yourself” Elle (Reese Witherspoon).
This iconic 2000’s film quote symbolises and represents our generation. It implies we must believe in one another and show empathy for all people. The timeless quote will speak wisdom for every tough situation we face in our time-span, including the challenge of climate change.
If we believe, we can do it. Gen Z can beat global warming.
