David Attenborough Urges The World To Push For Change

Sir David Attenborough took to the stand during the opening ceremony of the COP26 climate summit, where he delivered an emotional speech. The widely known naturist has always emphasised his concern and passion for the living world. This time is no different as he stressed the importance of taking action together against climate change.

The Harsh Reality

Attenborough started his talk with an emotional plea to leaders: “In my lifetime I have witnessed a terrible decline. In yours, you could witness a wonderful recovery”. This comes after experiencing a lifetime of devastating impact as a result of the current climate crisis.

He stressed that we all have to work together if we want to have a real chance of fighting climate change. Attenborough said: ” Those who done the least to cause this problem are being the hardest hit”. This is because the developing countries of the world have not been involved in carbon emissions as much as the most developed. With fewer resources to help, the developing countries are struggling, but we all feel the impact from the choices made at this summit.

Attenborough also said: “ If working apart we are a force strong enough to destabilise (weaken) our planet, surely working together we are powerful enough to save it“.

A Sense of Hope

Throughout his speech he revealed the harsh reality of the climate crisis. However, he also emphasised the hope he has that if people work together we could solve the problem.

Before the summit, David Attenborough said that COP26 gave himsome hope“. He said that “for the first time, people around the world will hear the arguments as to what they should do, the analysis as to what the problems are and how to fix them.

“These two things bring me hope” said Attenborough.
