Today’s COP26 theme is Adaptation, loss and damage-

- Climate Change – Time is running out !!!!
- Meaningful progress has been made since the Paris agreement
- Collectively, individually falling short and need to do more to tackle climate change
- More than 1/5 of the words companies are set to net 0 emissions
- 700 cities, 50 countries have said they will cut emissions by the end of the century
- Trump being in office has staggered America’s effort to tackle climate change
- However US citizens still met the aims of the Paris agreement
- Biden is now engaged US to take action against Climate Change along with the rest of the world in the Paris agreement
- “The US is back” – US aim to reduce 50-52% greenhouse gases by 2030
- The UK have aimed to cut emissions by 80% by 2035
- The bad news : No where near where we need to be – most countries have not reached their targets
- 85% of the world face major weather events due to climate change (hurricanes, floods, etc)
- Paris agreement- a start and the framework to beat climate change
- Disappointed to see China + Russia decline to attend COP26
- He confesses he doesn’t have all the answers
- He also says we need commitment to fight climate change.
- Climate change can’t be seen as a opportunity to score political points
- He is directly speaking to young people who are wondering what to do to help
- He is looking forward to speaking to the young activists
- Young people need to help members of the older generation about how important climate change is
