Digestive System Experiment by Leanna and Ella

We are learning about the digestive system.

We had to do an  experiment on the digestive system.

First we got a plastic bag and put the banana in it then we put 3 cream crackers, orange juice and water. This was the stomach. Then we had to squish it all together. Next we had to cut the end of the bag and poured it into tights. This was the small intestine. Then we had to squish the contents through the tights. This is it going through the small intestine. Next we cut the toe off the tights and put it in a cup with a hole in the bottom. This is the large intestine. Then we squished it through with a plastic cup. That was supposed to be the faeces coming out of the anus. That was are last step.

Kindness is our Super Power

P4/5 have been discussing ways to show kindness.

Firstly we asked ourselves ‘What does kindness mean?’ We came up with lots of ideas:

Kindness is:

  • being friendly, generous and considerate of others;
  • showing goodwill to others;
  • being concerned when others are upset or worried;
  • helping people when they need you;
  • doing something nice for someone else, without expecting anything
    in return.

We spoke about the ways we could show kindness, such as:

  • Smiling at people.
  • Helping  someone if they fall over.
  • Going to sit with someone who is sitting alone (if they want you to).
  • Sitting next to someone at lunchtime you would not normally sit with.
  • Asking someone how they are.
  • Saying  good morning.
  • Saying  something nice to as many people as possible.
  • Holding doors for others.

We have decided that people who show excellent and consistent examples of kindness will be awarded a ‘Super Hero’ badge which they will wear for the week. Pupils, teachers and helpers can all nominate someone for the badge by sharing an example of the kindness they have been shown.

We hope that everybody can be a ‘Super Hero’ !

Skeletons

Our topic this term is ‘The Body’ and we have begun by learning about the skeleton.

We discovered that babies have 300 bones but as they grow some bones fuse together until they end up with 206.

We also found out that our longest bone is our thigh bone: the femur.

Our task today was, working in our co-operative groups, to make a child-sized human skeleton using paper cut-outs. We had to look at our posters to check we were gluing everything in the right place. We also had to label some of the major bones correctly.

We had to make sure we were following our ‘group norms’ and working well together.

We had to complete the task in less than 45 minutes! The winning team were given a special prize.

Co-op Group Work

In our co-op groups we were making group norms. A group norm is a certain rule that you have to follow when you are working  in your co-op group. The norms had to be in persuasive writing. This means they are written in a positive way. We had to have three group norms. We all had to decide on the ones that we wanted.

For my homework I made a smell poster. It has 5 smells they are surprise smells you have to tick which one you like the best. The most popular smell is number 3 and is pink grape fruit.

.

For my homework I made a sight poster. It has 4 windows that you have to look through. You have to look through the window and see if you can see through it.

Keeping Active

Health and Well Being

We have been looking at why we need to be active as part of our Health and Wellbeing this term.

We know that being active helps us to become strong and healthy.

We know that moving counts as exercise and we could name lots of activities we do outside or at the Leisure Centre: for example, swimming, football, and playing in the play-park.

This week we were looking at types of exercise we could do in a small space. We made a list that included star jumps, jogging on the spot, and hopping.

We wanted to find out how many of each exercise we could do in a minute, so we needed to use stopwatches and count.

We also wanted to look at what happened to our bodies after doing a minute of each exercise – we discovered that our faces go red, we can start to ‘pech’,we can become thirsty, hungry and tired!

We are active!
