Maths Activities (Penny starters)
- Practice adding on and subtracting 9.
- Choose a room in your house; write down all the 2d shapes you can see.
- Make a target game – place 3 or 4 empty boxes on the floor. Label each box with a number between 1 and 5. Make up rules for the game. How many paper balls can you throw in a turn? How many does the winner of the game need to score altogether?
- Games like bridge, chess, and backgammon are ideal for learning strategic thinking.
- Estimate – before you tidy your room – estimate how many objects are on the floor. Count them as you tidy them away and see if you were right.
