The RVS invited some of the nursery bairns down to their meeting to share stories and do some drawing with their members.
The bairns had a good time and had a snack.
They got a lovely colouring book and pencils to take home.

We had a great time today out in the rain. There was lots of digging, splashing and making mud pies. We even had a look at the forecast on Mrs Wishart’s phone to see if it would ever stop raining!
Busy bairns!
This week we’d like to share a pamphlet from the SEIC which is a collaboration of councils and Education Scotland. Their pamphlets explains why sand and water play are important for learning and give some case studies to think about at the end. Although these pamphlets are designed for staff working in ELC they will also be useful for any parents who want to understand more about Play Pedagogy and why play is important for learning.

More snow!! Here is a home learning grid which you can use if you would like to. Most activities from this grid would also be suitable for children in P1-P3 too with slight adaptations and challenge added.
Here is an article from Play Scotland. Play Scotland are an organisation who promote play in Scotland. They have lots of tips and interesting information on their website. The link is here https://www.playscotland.org/
The article we’d like to share with you this week is called The Power of Play. Power-Of-Play-Leaflet-1. This leaflet gives you a brief summary of the benefits of play for your child’s Health and Wellbeing, Cognitive Development, Physical Activity, Mental Health, Emotional Wellbeing, Social Development, awareness of risk and challenge and how it can be therapeutic.
If you would like any more information about how play can help your child in any of these areas please get in touch.
This term we would like to use the blog to share some short videos, research findings and popular blog posts by others that help to explain how play is one of the best ways for us to learn in the early years. We hope you find what we post interesting and useful and we welcome any questions. If there’s specific areas you would like us to post about please just get in touch.

Enjoy!
The bairns have planned their snacks for the first 4 weeks of this term.
Our advent calendar has been donated by a member of the community and contains a wooden Christmas tree decoration. The bairns get to open a story book to read when it is their turn too.
We were asked to make decorations for the Leisure centre so we made a Christmas tree garland, we hope they like it.
The message centre has transformed into a letter writing area with bairns writing to Santa and making secret symbols and messages for our elf, Jingle.
The bairns wanted to wash the windows and were delighted to come in to warm bannocks for snack. Both excellent activities for pre-writing development.
Stories, books rhymes and songs are an important source in promoting early literacy. These can lead to creative, imaginative and open ended play. 📚❤️
Come and look at a book, for every time you open one, a new adventure has begun.
We loved our visit to the Shetland library.
