P4A Shape Success

P4A have been learning about shapes in class. We have looked at 2D shapes and 3D objects.

We made shapes using construction materials and toys in the school.

We labelled the vertices and edges. We could not label the faces as there was nowhere to selloptape on the label!

We made 2D shapes and labelled the sides, corners and the shape.

We had lots of fun making 2D shapes and 3D objects with our friends.

P7 Remembrance

P7 recently had the opportunity to visit the Lerwick Methodist Kirk to experience remembrance.

We learned about personal and global conflict and thought about ways to deal with conflict in our lives.

We heard stories of local people who fought in both world wars and learned more about what it means to remember.

We also took time to visit the local war memorial to find the names of some of the men who fought and died during WW1 and WW2.

Andy Stanton: Author Visit

The Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour brought hilarious, award-winning author Andy Stanton to visit us here at Sound as part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations!

Andy has been a film script reader, a cartoonist and lots of other things. He has many interests, but best of all he likes cartoons, books and music (even jazz). His favourite expression is ‘good evening’ and his favourite word is ‘captain’. You’re a Bad Man, Mr Gum! was his first book and is the first in the nine part Mr Gum series, and has won two Blue Peter Book Awards and the Roald Dahl Funny Prize.

Andy inspired our pupils by talking about his own journey to becoming an author including hilarious examples of what he wrote when he was at school. He also gave pupils practical tips on using just one idea to start a story and what to do when you get stuck writing a story.

This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to meet one of the UK’s most exciting children’s authors and learn how to use their creativity minds to come up with stories. Our pupils loved this event and their enthusiasm for writing is currently very high.

Sound Service Station

Mrs Sjoberg and her Roald Dahl Book club went in search of Mr Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory last week during Wider Achievement Time. They had no luck in their search but were very fortunate to come across  Sound’s own Mr and Mrs Wonka in the Sound Service Station. Jordan and Gemma spoke to our group about working in retail, particularly selling sweets to our local community. Our group left inspired after a very informative question and answer session in the shop.

Thanks very much to all the staff at the Sound Service Station.

My Friend Selma

We were very lucky to have a visit from the Theatre in Schools Scotland tour. They performed My Friend Selma which tells the remarkable real life story of one gorl’s journey from war in Bosnia to safety in the UK. It is the tale of an incredible journey, a world turned upside down, loss, friendship, courage and conkers. We all really enjoyed it.

Dynamic Earth Visit

Dynamic Earth visited us with their Operation Earth show. Earthy was feeling a little under the weather and had to go to the doctor for check ups. We discovered what we could do to help Earthy feel better. Recycle, avoid putting plastic into the Seas and Oceans as well as cycling and walking to school.
