Our JRSOs were busy during Road Safety week. They helped Mrs Skinley, Road Safety Officer with an assembly on cycle safety. They also organised a competition where pupils designed cycle helmets.
With the colder weather and dark nights they have been on hand with advice about staying safe on the way to and home from school.
Well done to James and Eva who won a local Shetland-wide competition to name a gritter.Moorie Mover and Plougher Power were their winning entries. They went to Nesting Primary School for the prizegiving and afternoon tea.
Thanks to our friends at Total who gave everyone at Sound Primary School a reflective armband so cars can spot our pupils in the darker afternoons.
Primary 7 went to the AHS last week to take part in a quiz. The quiz took place in the English department with some of the English teachers. It was a great chance for P7 to look around the AHS. They loved the library and are looking forward to more visits this year in preparation for the transition to S1 in August.
Miss Wiseman and Fiddlesticks were busy tonight entertaining the Sound Community Senior Citizens at their annual Christmas Dinner. We love taking part in this event each year.
We recently enjoyed a visit from Michael Coutts. He works for Dogs Against Drugs. He told us about his job and how they help to keep Shetland safe. He later visited with Thor.
Our Sound Blue netball team was in action last week. They won both of their games and had a really great time. We are super proud of how sporting they were during and after their games. Well done 👍
Our pupils who attend swimming lessons at Clickimin were recently invited to join Commonwealth Games medal winner and Olympic Swimmer, Hannah Miley in the pool to celebrate the launch of their new Learn to Swim programme.
Pupils from P1-P7 took part in Learn to Swim lessons with Clickimin coaches. Hannah demonstrated strokes and gave advice to participants before joining in with our younger pupil’s games.
Question and Answer session with Hannah. We asked lots of questions and Hannah told us lots of information about her swimming career and we found out that she loves the flumes!
Pupils in both primary 4 classes invited in members of their families to take part in our Learner Led numeracy event.
They shared the new homework number notion packs and tried out some of the activities.
The number notion packs include lots of exciting resources to help us with our maths inclulding a whiteboard pen, a big number line, strawberry digit cards, a clock and a cool number tube that we can squash to make numbers and sums!
We are looking forward to trying out our new homework activities from next week. Some of us were so excited we tried to take it home today!
