Developing The Young Workforce
Last Friday we visited the Pelagia Fish Factory. We were split into three groups then we got a guided tour of the factory. We were all amazed how big it was. We were amazed at how many countries their fish was sent to. In the olden day so much was done by hand, now machines do a lot of the work.
Sam “It was interesting to find out how the slicer sliced the fish!”
Aiden “I enjoyed this trip because I got to learn how Pelagia sells their products.”
Isla “I was shocked to feel how cold the giant freezer room was. I can’t imagine working their all day!
Kyle”I would like to work there in the future!”
This term and last term we have been doing Being Cool For School. We have looked at cool responses to situations. We have discussed cool thinking. We have considered cool facial expressions and cool body language. We have acted out lots of different scenarios. Our class have really enjoyed it. The Parent Council provided the funds to pay for the resources. Here is what some of the class had to say about it.
Freya – I thought it was fun because it helps you to stay cool.
Luca – It’s helped me at playtimes when I’ve been in arguements.
Connor – Loved it! It has helped when I’ve been in trouble.
Isla – I loved acting out the scenarios.
Tavish Scott came along to our p4-7 Assembly. He is a member of the Scottish Parliament for Shetland. He told us all about his job. Pupils then asked really good questions. His job sounded varied and interesting.
We recently enjoyed a visit from Michael Coutts. He works for Dogs Against Drugs. He told us about his job and how they help to keep Shetland safe. He later visited with Thor.
Our Junior Road Safety Officers did a presentation at Assembly along with Mrs Skinley. This year the theme is Bike Smart. The Junior Road Safety Officers gave advice on how to use bikes safely. Mrs Skinley showed the correct way to wear a helmet and also spoke about safety on a bike.

We very much enjoyed the Guizer Jarl squad visit. They were so lively and they were great singers. Stuart Smith came into our class and told us about the costume. We also got to hold and try on the axe, shield and helmet.
