Merry Christmas!

We are very excited about Christmas in Primary 5A!

Yesterday we had our Christmas party with different party games, dancing and lots of food! We had lots of fun.

Today we are meeting up with the whole school to sing Christmas songs.

We wish you all a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Experience Christmas!

Today we were invited to the Methodist Church to Experience Christmas! We learned a lot!

Kealan wrote the following blog entry:

It was really fun. We learned about who had the baby Jesus and we also learned some of the meanings of our names like Michael means ‘God to the rescue!’ We also learned about how it worked without any ely ectricity or cars or buses. It was really exciting to see the four sections!

It was also Chenet’s birthday today! We hope she enjoyed her day!

Visit from the Scottish Ambulance Service

Yesterday we were lucky to have a visit from the Scottish Ambulance Service. Isaac’s dad, Stuart,  Daniel visited with the ambulance and some of their equipment.  We found out what happens when a call is made.  We were told it was important to give as much info as possible about your location so the ambulance could get their quickly.

We also saw the uniform they might have to put on at an accident and we got to try on their helmet, goggles and gloves. We also go to look through their kit bags to see all the equipment they have to carry with them each day.

Then, we were shown how to do the recovery position. It is really easy and could save someone’s life! Isaac could move his dad into the position using only his finger tip!

The Miss McIntyre got used as a model for another piece of their equipment.  This equipment is used to help people if they have had a car accident. We thought she looked really funny!

Finally, got to go outside and have a look at the ambulance. They demonstrated the blue flashing lights and sirens – it was really loud!

We really enjoyed the visit and learned a lot – thank you!

Hour of Code

This afternoon we took part in the Hour of Code –  ‘a global movement by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming.’

We really enjoyed it and tried lots of different coding games including Scratch, Flappy Bird, Frozen, Star Wars and Minecraft.

P7 Panto Rehearsal

Today we went to watch the P7s perform Scrooge. It was about Scrooge, a man who didn’t like Christmas. He ended up liking Christmas because his wife was upset and he met his old working partner Jacob Marley and three ghosts – Christmas Past, Present, and Christmas Yet to Come.

Here is what we thought:

Jenson – I liked Scrooge because Harry played him well.

Lauree-Ann – It was really good! It would have been really hard to memorise all their lines!

Ella – I thought that it was quite funny and I really enjoyed it! I could tell that they had worked really hard on it.

Chenet – I thought they acted really well.

Kealan – It was not comfortable sitting down because we had the whole school there!!

Erin – They did a brilliant job – well done P7!

Peter – I would really like to read the book one day!

Mark – Well done!!

Keeping our minds healthy

Today we had our last visit from Jill Hood, Health Improvement Officer. She came in to talk to us about our emotional wellbeing. We spoke about how it is normal to have lots of feelings and then spoke about some of the people we could go to if we needed support.

Can you guess which feelings we are demonstrating here?

We also learned about mindfulness and relaxation techniques. A couple of us actually fell asleep!

Advent begins

This afternoon we celebrated the start of Advent. We learned about the reasons behind advent calendars and about different ways it is celebrated around the world before starting to make lovely wintery pictures.

We have an advent candle which we will burn each day as we get closer to Christmas.

Today it was Theo’s turn to blow out the candle. We also have a chocolate advent calendar and, as we have become interested in riddles, we have an interactive Christmas riddle advent calendar to open each day. Can you guess the answer to today’s riddle?

I was first made popular in England after Queen Victoria’s husband Albert put me up in Windsor Castle.

I used to be decorated with candles, sweets and cakes.

Today I am decorated with fairy lights, tinsel and decorations.

Today I come in all sizes and colours.

What am I?
