Playground Leadership

This term we are improving our leadership skills in the playground. We aim to learn new playground games and teach them to the primary 1 and 2 pupils. Jennifer, from Active Schools, is helping us learn new games and showing us good leadership skills. Today we learned how to play Aeroplane Tig and Dragon’s Nest.

Outdoor Venn Diagrams

This week we have been learning about Venn Diagrams.  With the nice weather, we went outside to sort items.  We used hula hoops to create our diagram and we wrote our categories in chalk to help us sort items outside.  We have lots of fun creating our own categories and exploring the grounds to sort items.

Our Healthy Bodies

This term our topic has been Healthy Bodies.

Over the last two weeks we rounded off our knowledge of healthy bodies with some visits from health professionals.

Angela from ChildSmile came in to talk to us about how to keep our teeth healthy.  We learned about the importance of brushing, healthy diets and regular check ups.

Gemma, our school nurse, came in to talk to us about the importance of cleanliness.  We learned about germs, the impact they can have on our bodies and how to limit the spread through handwashing.

Up Helly Aa 2025

We had the most amazing time experiencing Up Helly Aa this year, embracing our Shetland culture.

Alongside 3A we travelled to the street to watch the morning procession.  We joined in with the excitement; cheering and singing. We even got a brilliant view of the Jarl’s presentation as he passed the Albert Building and the Lerwick Port Authority.  We ended our trip with a fantastic view of this years galley and watched as the Jarl Squad got their photos.

On return to school we had the delights of seeing both the Junior and Senior Jarl squads in the gym hall. We sang with delight and saw their outfits up close.

Shapes and patterns

This term we have been learning about symmetry, shapes and patterns. We experimented with tiling different shapes and creating beautiful patterns.

Everyone was incredibly focused showing amazing meta skills in creativity, communication and adapting when faced with challenges and problems. Some even experimented further and extended their tiling patterns using symmetry!

Have a look at their amazing creations below.
