Well done JRSOs

Well done to our Junior Road Safety Officers – Megan, Eldars and Alisers who have worked hard to promote road safety in our school this year.

They attended a ceremony at the town hall in Lerwick on Tuesday where they presented their work using a Sway presentation and were presented with certificates and goody bags.

Well done, Primary 6.

Reebops

This term we have been learning about animals, plants and ecosystems. Today, we finished learning about inheritance. We made reebops and then paired together to find out what their children would look like. We learned about phenotypes, genotypes and alleles. We worked really well together.

End of Term Assembly

Today we had an assembly to celebrate our achievements this year. We had written a top secret song for our three P7 leavers, Simone, Vanja and Ryszard. We had done a great job keeping our secret and our P7s were amazed by our hard work!

We also awarded certificates to each other, were awarded certificates from our teachers as well as some other special awards.

Here are some photos of our performance of The Ogre that had No Heart!

Tug of War and Walk to the Beach

What a fun day we had on Wednesday for our end of term church service, tug of war, (indoor) picnic lunch and a trip to the beach. We were joined by Happyhansel for the day and had a great time!

Drama on the Bog

Yesterday we went to Cunningsburgh to learn about trows, peat and bogs.

We learned about global warming. When the peat dries out the carbon dioxide doesn’t have anywhere to go and contributes to global warming. We got to meet two different trows who told us their stories.

Some words we would use to describe our day are:

  • really hot
  • fun
  • interesting
  • it was a loooong way
  • amazing
  • smelly
  • exciting

Thank you to all the organisers!

Westside Sports

Megan, Alisers, Eldars and Simone had great fun representing the school at the Westside Sports Day where they got to try lots of different events!

The Five Kingdoms

As part of our learning on plants, animals and ecosystems, yesterday we were learning about the five kingdoms! We found out that these are:

  • animals
  • plants
  • fungi
  • prokaryotes
  • protoctista.

Here are some things we found out:

Alisers – Fungi is the biggest in our ecosystem!

Liam – the prokaryote kingdom includes bacteria

Megan – Animals are one of the most complicated organisms

Sophie – Humans are included in the animal kingdom

Alice – Trees and plants make oxygen and feed themselves through photosynthesis

Vanja – The animal kingdom is full of different animal species

Eldars – Some animals help grass to grow by fertilising it

Finn – All the kingdoms make up an ecosystem

Simone – We went outside and around the school looking for organisims from the five kingdoms. We found plants, animals and fungi.

Can you guess which kingdom these are from??

Frogspawn fun!

A few weeks ago, Miss McIntyre woke up to find lots of frogs in her pond. They had laid lots of spawn which we have been enjoying having in class. We’ve been able to watch as the frogspawn has hatched into tadpoles and are looking forward to seeing them change into froglets!

Last day of term!

What a super last day we have had! First, a visit from the Walls Brownies Up Helly Aa squad, our Easter Service and a visit from the Play Van!

Brilliant Bowls

For the past four weeks, P4-7 have enjoyed taking part in Bowls sessions with John and Jean Jarmson. On Wednesday the winning teams – Megan, Simon, Eldars and Vanja, went to Lerwick to take part in the Primary Schools Bowls Competition where they represented the school brilliantly!
