School Trip on the Tugboats

Yesterday we went on a school trip to the Shetland Islands Council Tugboats at Sella Ness. The tugboats take the oil tankers into the oil terminal at Sullom Voe. There were no tankers in yesterday so we got to go off for a run on two of the new tugboats. We got to have a go of steering the tugboats, we had a great day. Thank-you to the crew who made our trip so enjoyable. 🙂

140 years of North Roe School 1878-2018

On 1st May 1878 the North Roe School was established. On 1st May 2018 we celebrated 140 years of North Roe School. We had a lovely lunch with some previous headteachers and teaching staff of North Roe School then we had a community event in the afternoon. Thank-you to everyone who came to celebrate 140 years of our school. We got a very special gift for our 140th anniversary. One of our pupils talented mum painted a lovely picture of the North Roe School for us.

Thank-you from North Roe!

In 1922, Mr James Hay Henderson and his wife Isabella, left North Roe to sail to New Zealand to live forever! Their granddaughter, who now lives in Australia, was ‘googling’ North Roe to find out about where her Grandparents came from and she found our school blog! 🙂 She sent this big parcel to the school, full of lots of Australian things for the children. Thank-you so much! One of the parents has been researching the family tree and it turns out that 2 of our pupils have a 3rd cousin once removed in Australia… it’s a small world!

We Can Do It!

On International Women’s Day we were learning about gender equality and how there is no such thing as ‘girls jobs’ and ‘boys jobs’. You can be anything you want to be if you work hard and persevere. We re-enacted this iconic wartime propaganda poster in celebration of International Women’s day.
