Christmas Lunch

Thank-you to all the staff at the Brae canteen for our lovely Christmas dinner. After dinner we found Jolly the Elf at the front door of the school with a bag of presents from Santa! The bairns were so excited to read their personalised books.

Senior Citizens Party

Every year we have a Christmas party for all the senior citizens in North Roe & Lochend. They are invited to the school for the afternoon. We have tea and homebakes, the children sing and then we all play some Christmas games. Thank-you to everyone who came, we hope you had a fun afternoon! 🙂

Craft Fair 2018

Huge well done to our young enterprise group who have had a very successful weekend at the Shetland Craft Fair. They were selling their recipe books, greetings cards, ‘undercover gardening’ book and the flower pots they painted. Thank-you to all the customers who supported them and to Miss Goodlad, Mrs Robertson and Mrs Williamson for helping on the stall. It has been great to hear lots of positive comments from people about the children’s customer service skills. 🙂

We still have some ‘undercover gardening’ books, they are £8 each. If you would like to purchase one, please contact the school. You will find the contact number and e-mail address if you click on the ‘about us’ tab at the top of the page.

Craft Fair

The bairns have been working really hard to prepare for the craft fair this year. They have been decorating plant pots using stencils and porcelain pens and paint. Their fine motor skills have been put to the test! It’s been really tricky but they have got neater and neater with each pot they have painted. Well done to all the bairns for your patience! 🙂

The bairns will be selling their flower pots at the Christmas Craft Fair this weekend at the Clickimin, open:

  • Friday 16th November 7pm – 9pm
  • Saturday 17th November 10am – 6pm
  • Sunday 18th November 11am – 5pm

Undercover Gardening Book

Our latest enterprise project is very exciting! We have been working with Nort Energy to create an ‘undercover gardening’ book. The bairns have been interviewing local people who have polycrubs to get their top tips! Thank-you so much to Susan, Leslie, Maree, Leslie and Janetta for letting us visit your polycrubs and interview you. We all had such a great time and thanks to Susan and Leslie for baking us yummy sunflower cupcakes! The bairns will be selling the ‘Undercover Gardening’ book at the Christmas Craft Fair this weekend at the Clickimin, open:

  • Friday 16th November 7pm – 9pm
  • Saturday 17th November 10am – 6pm
  • Sunday 18th November 11am – 5pm

Enterprise Cafe

Our first enterprise cafe was a success! The children worked so hard and really enjoyed it. Thank-you to all our customers who came and for being so generous. The children were delighted when they got to divide up the tips and take their well deserved cash home! 🙂 Here are some pictures of our head chef, sous chef, kitchen assistants, cafe manager, waiters and waitresses working hard!

Gritter visit

We got to see one of the SIC’s new gritters. We were learning how the gritter drivers keep the Shetland roads safe when there is snow and ice. They do a very important job!

Developing the Young Workforce

We completed the ‘animal me’ quiz on our ‘my world of work’ accounts. The quiz asked us lots of questions about our skills and interests and told us what kind of an animal we are! This got us thinking about types of careers that would be suited to our own skills and interests, as well as any skills we need to develop for our preferred career choice.

Careers adviser, Vaila Angus came into school to help us with writing an application form and interview skills. This is in preparation for our Enterprise Cafe we will be having at school on Thursday 11th October. The children had to apply for one of the jobs; head chef, sous chef, kitchen assistant, waitress/waiter or cafe manager. The application forms were read by Miss Irvine and Mrs Robertson then the children were invited to an interview. Miss Irvine and Mrs Robertson were really impressed with how well all the children did in their interviews! They were confident and answered all 4 questions really well. 🙂
