Jamie came into school to talk to us about conservation. He told us that beavers became extinct in Scotland but they got 4 families of Beavers from Norway and have introduced them back into Scotland. We had to work in teams to build a dam like a beaver would. The challenge was to make the dam so good that water wouldn’t get through. We timed how long it took for the water to get through the dam and then we had another go, the record was 18 seconds! We had a great afternoon learning about wildlife in Scotland.

My presentation was about the Delting disaster. My great grandad charlie laurenson opened the memorial 100 years after the storm. Hom bru made a song called the sang o da Delting lass  and that song tells a story about a lass who lost her man in the Delting disaster and it makes me cry every time. By Mairianne

We have had a fantastic afternoon today. Thomas’s dad Lindsay Angus came into school with Peter Robertson to teach us how to tie different types of knots in string, twine and rope. Most of the bairns at North Roe school help with animals on the croft and they go off fishing so this was very relevant skills to learn that will be really useful. We learned about friction and how it keeps the knot intact. Lindsay and Peter demonstrated tying different types of knots and then we all had a go. We learned the:
Thank-you to Lindsay and Peter for coming in to teach the bairns. Everyone had a great time! 🙂
