Fee-fi-fo-fum!

The Giant from our Jack and the Beanstalk story book has been to our school and left us a maths challenge! He left behind some footprints when he visited the school and he asked us to find things that were longer than his footprint, shorter than his footprint and the same length as his footprint, then we had to measure all the different things we found.

Planting beans!

img_2224 img_2225 img_2226

Primary 1 and 2 wanted to grow their own beanstalks so they have planted some beans…we’re not quite sure if they’re MAGIC beans yet! We’ll have to wait and see, we’re going to keep checking on them and measure how tall the beanstalks grow. 🙂

Storyline

We made a story-line with Miss Morrison. If you follow the path then you will find out the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. We enjoyed creating all the pictures to go along with the story and making a long, colourful path. Best of all we love telling the story to people as they walk down the story path. We like putting on different voices for the different characters! 🙂

STEM towers

Me and Mairianne made a mini Eiffel tower out of marshmallows and raw spaghetti and it had a cross to make it more stable. It fell over a few times and we had to cut the marshmallows. We cut the spaghetti to make it the right length and to make it stronger so it didn’t fall over. We used more spaghetti to make it stronger as well. Our tower was the tallest.

STEM challenge

We had to make a structure out of spaghetti and marshmallows we were split into teams one team was Mairianne  and  Thomas and the other was me Vaila  and John. Our team we put lots of spaghetti together and we made crosses of spaghetti on the roof  it was fun building it but it fell over a few times. We needed a strong foundation to support our structure. We want to try the challenge again to see if we can make a taller tower.

Measuring in Maths

We are learning about measuring in maths.  Capacity  is fun, working with water is very wet we are learning how to measure volume. We use meters sticks and rulers to measure the length of things. We used kg and g to weigh different things. It is very exciting  and good. capacity is my favourite one in the world.

I Have a Dream!

Last week we were discussing our ambitions. We were learning about Martin Luther King Jr and his hopes and dreams. We watched his famous ‘I Have a Dream’ speech and discussed what made him such a talented public speaker. We wrote a speech about our future plans and dreams and then read them confidently to the rest of the class. Dream big, work hard! 🙂

Rare Bird Alert!

This week there was a Rufous Turtle Dove in our playground! It was only the 3rd Shetland record, less than 20 have occurred in the UK! Scott’s Grandad first spotted the rare bird on Monday and on Tuesday some bird watchers came up to North Roe to see the Rufous Turtle Dove. The bird has probably come all the way from Russia! Thanks to Hugh for this lovely picture.
