Week 8 Family Well-being Night

It has been a fantastic week at Hamnavoe.  On Tuesday night we had a very successful Family Well-being night.  We had 98 pupils and parents signed up for a night of workshops on the theme of wellbeing.  The event was opened with a short programme by all classes show casing the range of work taking place in school on the theme of health and well-being.  Once everyone moved into the workshops there was dancing and yoga with Kathryn Gordon, growing your own food in Shetland with Penny and Alan from Turriefield, fruit kebab making with the Schools catering team,  first aid with the Paramedics, life saving with the Lerwick lifeboat, information sharing on internet safety and drugs and alcohol with the Police drumming with Joy Duncan, games for the family with Active Schools and advice from Anchor and the Dental service.  Families signed up for three workshops of 20 minutes each.
There was something for all ages and abilities and it was deemed a huge success with lots of positive feedback coming in.
We also ran a cafe where everyone could stop off for a chat and enjoy a drink and a homebake made by all the pupils across the school under the supervision of Peter our head cook.  This was a great hit with all ages.  It was super to see whole families getting involved.
Well done to our P7s who visited the local Thursday club for the elderly and provided musical items.  This is a new connection for us and was enjoyed by all.
