Netball & Football Tournament

On Thursday 22nd of May P6 and P7 went to a Netball & Football Tournament; First we got a lift to Mid Yell so we could meet the bus to get to Unst. We waited around 20 minutes, we next went on a big bus to Gutcher, we met people from Cullivoe who were coming on the trip with us, they came up with a chant which we sung on the bus. When we got to the leisure centre we were playing at, it was around lunch time so we went over to Baltasound School, we had fish and chips.

After lunch we got to the leisure centre  and got to have a lesson of how to play netball with Suzy and Emma (who are players from Unst.) We were split into group blues and reds, then we played a game where we had to pass a netball round in a circle to the blue group (as we were in the blue group), the red group had another ball and then when the two balls were going  around if one of the groups ball overtake another groups ball the team who ball had been over taken was out, it was a really fun game. We also worked on our passing, and shooting; when doing our shooting Suzy and Emma split us into groups and then we had to get up to 5 shoots in a basket, Our team won, I scored 2 goals.

Afterwards we got to play a game of netball, our team won in the end, but the other team put up a good fight; The footballers also won their games they played, on the bus back to Mid Yell there was a buzzing atmospheric.

We put down our jackets and water bottle and then we went downstairs for a sound check. When we finished the sound check we went upstairs and waited until we played. We went downstairs because  we were playing  on the stage. Crunch & Magnie Have ARRIVED!

Our long awaited package with our school mascot Magnie, has eventually come from his holiday in Tipperary Cattle Station in Australia with his Aussie friend Crunch the Croc. Magnie is our school pet whale, he has traveled all over the world and comes back with many stories to tell, he has been to Australia many times.

It all started after we sent Magnie away to the land of Australia, Magnie had to fly all the way to the other side of the world, he says “It was the most exciting way to start off his holiday to Tipperary, with puffin poo to keep him well fed!” He arrived on 15th April, he spent 13 glorious days in sunny Australia.

Tipperary Cattle Station School has 6 children, the land around the school is very vast and flat. The head teacher is called Jasmine Shannon, There is wild cows roaming around; to get to school the children go in helicopters! They all have horses (how cool is that!).  Magnie told us how he met Crunch the Crocodile on his first day in Australia, they got on like a house on fire; Magnie did cycling in the barn with the children of Tipperary, he also did gymnastics, he also went to the equestrian centre and met horses for the first time, he went flying over Tipperary. Magnie went home with all of the children and got to know what it was like in different people’s houses. Magnie had such an amazing time! Tipperary blogged about how much fun they had with Magnie. Our mascot with his best mate was sent away on April 28th. Yesterday Magnie arrived jet lagged from his trip and now it is our turn to take Crunch the Croc around Burravoe. Magnie would love to thank Tipperary for having him in Australia.

Mid Yell P7 Transition

On Tuesday 6th of May, Me and Ms  went to Mid Yell Junior High, which is around 19 miles away. Me and Ms Breyley arrived early so I got a longer tour. I am doing my P7 transition at the moment, the last time I blogged about transition I was in Cullivoe. Here is the link to the blog post to know what I am on about. Cullivoe Transition Day Blog Post.

After the tour, Cullivoe Primary P7’s had arrived so we got started. We had a talk about what we would that day; we had to present our power point that we did in Cullivoe. That took up most of the morning because we listened to other people’s presentations. At break time we had fruit inside the classroom as people were in their exams at the moment. We played music and played on the iPad; after lunch we had to make 4 letter words with paper letters we were given, there was a tie at 31. Then we met some of the secondary teachers, and did some of the subjects we would be doing in secondary 1. That was the end of the transition day,The last transition day will be on 28th May in Burravoe. 🙂

Mussels

We all hopped on the bus and drove to Cullivoe. On the way to Cullivoe we saw mussel lines they have big black floats, they are bit like big black plastic eggs. And they are ropes that hook the plastic eggs together. When we got there well first we all put on our boots. We all said hi to Christopher. We went to a big yellow box  full of water and mussels and when you looked closer you could see a sea slater. All of the mussels where stuck on to a rope that was very dirty and sea weed grew on it too. We saw some of the mussels opening up to feed on creatures in the water. We went to a box that has hairy rope that baby mussels grow on. We went over to a fish tank with no lid, there were mussels and sea slaters, brittle stars and an orange fish. Next we went through a door to a room full of mussels and other sea bugs and red sea weed. We looked for sea bugs. Then we went outside and there was a giant WASHING MACHINE that cleans the mussels and then they go on a moving conveyor belt and the people throw the bad ones in a bin. The good ones go in to yellow bag and send them to Billingsgate in London then they get sent to places in England and to Israel and Dubai.
