Our School Trip

On Tuesday 10th December we went to the Energy Recovery Plant, District Heatining Scheme and the landfill site.

First we went to the Energy Recovery Plant. We met two people called Brydon and Libby. They showed us a power point about what sort of things they did there and they showed us a claw. Then they gave us hardhats and safety glasses and we went down stairs. We stood in a line and when it was our turn they showed us the furnace (we needed our safety glasses at that point). They showed us a blue tank which contained boiling water.

Then we went to the landfill site. At the landfill site there was a lot of seagulls that were attracted by the food containers and the smell. Brydon showed us around.

Next we went to the Shetland museum to have our sandwiches and a couple of other things.

Last we saw the District Heating Scheme. The man gave us mini torches. He showed us an energy pipe.

Then it was time to go home.

I learned that they never run out of rubbish at the Energy Recovery plant and that the furnace is as hot as lava.
