On Tuesday 10th December the whole school went to the Energy Recovery Plant and then the landfill site and then we all had our lunch and after that we went to the district heating scheme. When we were in the Energy Recovery Plant we met 2 people called Libby and Brydon, they showed us a map of where the heat goes. First it goes from the Energy Recovery Plant to SBS then it goes onto the Shetland Catch, District Heating Boiler Station, the Power Station, Shetland Farm Dairies, the Ferry Terminal, the Toll Clock Centre, the New Museum, North Ness Business Park , Charlotte House and then finally it goes to many more working places in Lerwick. After they showed us the map they showed us a pipe and I learned that it only dropped 1°C because it had this foam thing that you wrap around the pipe and it looked like they put duck tape around the foam and that foam keeps the pipe hot which keeps the heating hot.
I learned that the furnace is the heat of a volcano and that they burn the rubbish.
I learned that the claw is controlled by a chair with buttons and the yellow and orange bags are from the hospitals and the care homes and that was our busy day.
