PSE Learning Resources

Within the PSE Programme, the Pastoral Team use a range of resources to ensure that lesson content and delivery engages young people and supports their personal development.

Teaching Approaches

Each PSE class has its own Microsoft Team where Learning Intentions & Success Criteria are shared, lesson resources can be distributed and key Pastoral notices communicated. Ipads are regularly used in PSE lessons. Teachers will use a range of approaches and activities including (but not exhaustive):

  • Paired, Group and Whole Class Discussion
  • Microsoft OneNote
  • Mentimeter
  • Online quizzes (Kahoot)
  • Whiteboards
  • My World of Work, Apprenticeships.scot & Planit Plus
  • UCAS & University websites
  • Relevant films/clips and documentaries
  • Peer Delivery Programmes: Mentors in Violence Prevention and Pride groups
  • Invited Speakers (more common in Senior Phase)

  • Careers and Course Choices – My World of Work, Planit Plus, School Handbook, Dumfries & Galloway Apprenticeships Youtube channel
  • Substance Use Education resources have been developed by  Scottish Borders Council working in Partnership with Public Health colleagues from NHS Borders. They are only accessible to Staff through GLOW  Substance Use Toolkit.
  • Mental Health & Wellbeing resources, “Young Minds Matters”,  have been commissioned Scottish Borders Council.
  • I am Me Scotland  – suite of resources covering Substance and Alcohol Misuse, Hate Crime and Disability Awareness developed by Police Scotland, Renfrewshire’s Children Services, HSCP, NHS, Children, COPFS, Young People and people who have direct experience of drug and alcohol use, addiction and recovery.
  • Water Safety and VSA resources available from Education Scotland 

Video/Documentaries

The PSE programme is responsive to current issues and trends.  Use is made of documentaries and online clips to add context to topics being learned.
