Parent Council

Monkton Primary Parent Council

In 2007, Parent Councils were set up all over Scotland to replace School Boards. The Parent Council is a group of parents that represent parental views and works in partnership with pupils, the Head Teacher and the local authority to achieve the best for our school.

All parents are welcome to join the Parent Council either as a member of the Council or as a Committee member. The Parent Council meets termly, currently meeting virtually due to COVID 19 restrictions.

Aims/Purposes of the Parent Council

  • Supporting the school and it’s work with pupils
  • Representing the views of parents/carers in relation to school issues
  • Promoting contact between the school, parents/carers, pupils, providers of nursery education and the community
  • Promote close co-operation and communication with the school community

How can we get involved?

All parents of children at Monkton automatically become a member of the Parent Forum and all are welcome to attend any of the Monkton Parent Council meetings. Every year, at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Parent Council nominates or elects a Parent Council Committee to represent the views of parents at their school for the forthcoming year. The Monkton Parent Council can also decide to co-opt other members who are not parents. These can include members from the teaching staff, Community Council, local residents’ associations, the police and others who are willing to share their knowledge and skills.
