Rights Respecting Schools

Maidens Primary School and Early Years Centre currently holds a Rights Respecting Schools Silver Award which recognises our commitment to the programme. We are now working towards gaining our Silver award with progress being driven by our Rights Respecting School Pupil Steering Group.

The Rights Respecting School Pupils Group consists of pupils from P1-7 who have been voted for by their peers to represent each class. The group meet monthly to explore the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).  Articles of the UNCRC are discussed and the group work to ensure all pupils within the school are aware of and receive their rights, whilst also promoting the rights of others around the world.

The group regularly present at assemblies and in classes where they are keen to seek the views of all pupils.

Children in the Early Years Centre  are involved in Rights Respecting Schools through visits from the group, assembly activities and other learning experiences.
