Halloween Activity Day
We have been working hard learning about many aspects of health and safety. This Halloween we were tested on our skills and knowledge through a fun activity day. Have look at all the things we got up to!
We used our kitchen hygiene and safety skills and knowledge to make spooky gingerbread. P6/7 also applied many of their literacy and maths skills to read the recipe and measure the ingredients. We remembered what Jacqui had taught us about kitchen safety and hygiene.
Miss Ross had a terrible accident……. She burnt and cut herself! We had to respond to this emergency. We administered first aid but also called an ambulance as we felt the cut was too serious to treat at school. We were glad that the paramedic had given us information on what to do.
Owl Magic brought some spooky animals to school. We learned about how the animals are cared for and how they are all safely transported from place to place. We remembered some of the information given to us at our road safety assembly.
We made a fire to keep us warm outside. We had to be careful when moving around near the fire. We toasted marshmallows and told spooky stories. We remembered what Liam the Fireman had told us about fire safety.
We carved pumpkins and had fun squishing the insides. We had to be very careful when we were using the cutters to carve the pumpkins. Thankfully we had no emergencies like Miss Ross!! We’ll now leave the pumpkins outside for the animals to eat and we’ll watch how they decompose.
What the kids said…
I enjoyed mixing the ingredients together.
I liked cutting the a bat shaped gingerbread biscuit.
We used maths while we were baking.
We washed our hands and made sure all our equipment was hygienic.
I enjoyed baking gingerbread biscuits.
Miss Ross cut her arm so we had to call the ambulance by dialling 999.
We had to put pressure on the cut using a rag or a bandage…not cotton wool.
We advised her run the burn under cold water for 15 mins.
I enjoyed holding the barn owl.
I was quite disgusted when the owl pooped on my arm.
She talked to us about being safe around the owls.
The owls need to be safe and secure when they are being taken places in the car.
My favourite part of the day was Owl Magic.
We had to stay safe and keep a good distance from the fire.
You have to be careful not to burn yourself on the fire when toasting your marshmallow!
It was quite hard to light the fire using matches… The wind kept blowing them out!
We told spooky stories.
I liked telling spooky stories.
We had some really good ideas for our pumpkin designs.
It was quite hard to scoop out the pumpkin guts!
We worked well together in pairs to carve our pumpkins.
I LOVED EVERYTHING!
This was the best Halloween ever!
