Young Carers

At Dailly Primary School and Early Years Centre we are committed to identifying and supporting children who are Young Carers. A Young Carer is anyone under the age of eighteen who supports, or helps to support a relative, friend or neighbour.  They may need extra support due to an illness, disability, mental health condition, because they are elderly, neurodivergent, have issues relating to drugs or alcohol or because they need help to communicate. No diagnosis is required for the cared for person.

Please see the link below to open the Thinglink for Young Carers. This link gives you access to a variety of information including information about South Ayrshire’s Young Carer Policy and how to access  free leisure activities.

Young Carer Toolkit

Mrs Kirkwood is our Young Carers Champion. A Young Carers Champion is a member of the school staff who acts as a point of contact for all Young Carers in each school. Our Young Carers meet with Mrs Kirkwood every Wednesday afternoon to discuss ways the school can support them, get help with homework, discuss their feelings if they wish and plan ways to educate the whole school about the role of a young carer and support they may need. They also take part in wellbeing activities.

Some of our Young Carers have created this very informative powerpoint. This will be shared with all children in the school at assembly.
