Internet Safety

The Internet can be wonderful for learning. Pupils can use it to research school reports, communicate with teachers and other pupils, and play interactive learning games.

Understanding online safety is tricky for all ages –  there is lots of advice and guides available online to help you learn about staying safe online as a family. Using social apps and online games can often lead to tricky situations that may require adult help.

At St James’ we use technology across the curriculum, therefore, internet safety is at the forefront of our learning from Primary 1 to Primary 7. We participate in Cyber Scotland Week and Safer Internet Day to promote ways to stay safe when online.

Talking regularly with your child is the greatest tool to help keep them safe online. Talking regularly and making it part of daily conversation, like you would about their day at school, will help your child feel relaxed. It also means when they do have any worries, they’re more likely to come and speak to you.

Below we have collected some helpful guides and websites that may help start these conversations.
