On Tuesday 15th November 2022 (3.05 – 3.30) the school will host a Bookbug Gifting Event for P1-3 pupils.
During this event, staff will share with parents/carers some activity ideas to enjoy the Bookbug Gift Bags together and help children develop a love of stories, songs and rhymes. During this time, pupils will be read a short story with a juice and a snack. Pupils will be gifted their bag before leaving.
Please note, for any pupil not attending the event, they will be given their bag the following day in school.
Parents/Carers are asked to collect their child at the school gates at the usual time and make their way to the atrium. This will allow staff to quickly tidy and set up for the event.

With support from Renfrewshire Council and Bòrd na Gàidhlig, We are delighted to share this free opportunity for all pupils aged 8-18. Our Gaelic Choir sessions run on Tuesday evenings at Castlehead High School and are an opportunity for young people to come together and sing in a fun environment. No previous knowledge of Gaelic is required and they will have the opportunity to compete in local and national competitions, including the Royal National Mòd when it returns to Paisley in 2023. They will learn new songs, improve their listening and creative skills and have fun!
Applications are open now for our November 1st start date. More information and our registration form can be found here: https://feisphaislig.com/gaelic-choir

The Parent Group are excited to announce the first school disco of the new school year.
Halloween Disco on Thursday 27th October 2022
Disco 1 – P1 to P3 from 6.30pm to 7.45pm
Disco 2 – P4 to P7 from 8:00pm to 9.15pm
Entry to the disco will be £2 and parental contact slips will be issued, to be returned on entry to the disco. There will be a tuck shop for the children to purchase sweets/crisps and a drink.
Previously P1s didn’t attend the first disco of the year as it can be overwhelming for some with the numbers and costumes. If you are concerned about how your child will react at their first disco, we’d suggest that offering to help at the disco is a perfect solution as it allows you to be there if needed.
The disco will only be able to go ahead with support from parents/carers. Anyone who can help at the disco should confirm which disco they can help at, to the parent group through the parent group email address: stjamessrenfrew@renfrewshire.npfs.org.uk
Reminder that all pupils must be collected by a parent/carer from inside the school building at the end of their disco.
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
By Friday 14 October, there will be two payments made to parents and carers of children and young people who attend primary or secondary school and who qualify for free school meals based on family circumstances.
-free school meals payment
-additional Scottish Child Payment expansion payment (being paid to parents in the run up to this benefit being expanded to all children and young people aged 6 to 16).
By Friday 4 November, the £50 Winter Clothing payment will be paid directly into bank accounts. This payment is to support families to buy additional clothing as part of the cost of living and energy bills crisis and will be paid for each child in receipt of School Clothing Grant.
All of these payments are only for families who qualify (are on certain benefits) and will be paid out automatically to anyone who has applied for this school year (August 2022 to June 2023).
If you’ve already applied for free school meals or a school clothing grant, you do not need to apply again.
If you haven’t applied and you receive a qualifying benefit, you should apply by 28 October for a school clothing grant so we can include you in the £50 Winter Clothing payment.
If your child is in primary six or seven, you should apply so your child can get a free school meal as well as getting these payments.
If your child is in primary one, two, three, four or five, your child will automatically receive a school meal. However, if you are on certain benefits then you should apply for free school meals because the council make payments into your bank account in place of school meals during school holidays (spring, summer, October and Christmas breaks).
You should also apply for a clothing grant no matter what primary class your child is in (if you qualify).
For more information on if you qualify, search ‘free school meals and clothing grants’ on the council’s website.
Afterschool clubs will be back up and running the week beginning the 10th October, and we cannot wait to see everyone back. We would love to see as many faces as possible, to have fun while learning and developing sporting skills.
