Homework w/b 3/9/18

Good afternoon! Here is our homework for the week ahead:

Reading

Each child has been given a new school reading book to read aloud and discuss this week. These will be collected in on Friday.

All word walls have been checked. Children will have this word wall until they are confident reading all of the words.

Maths

In class we have been looking at numbers before and after and filling in the missing number. The homework sheet is based around this. I have advised the children that they are welcome to borrow a number line from the class should they wish to help them. The sheet should be completed and handed back by Thursday.

Spelling

We discussed the sound ‘th’ today and came up with some fantastic words! The spelling words we chose were:

think, tooth, then and there.

Our four common words this week are:

that, it he and was.

As always, please ask if you have any queries either through the homework diary or at the end of the day.

Please remind children to hand in any letters they may have in the mornings along with their diary.

Miss Grant

Spelling Homework

Spelling homework was issued today, should be completed across the week, and handed back in by next Wednesday.  We completed a ‘practice’ run in school last week, so the children should be clear on what is expected. There is a suggested ‘completion outline’ stuck inside your child’s homework jotter, to help you to spread the load across the week.  I’ve copied it below, for your information, incase any have fallen out already.  This is consistent across the year group.

Primary Two Spelling Homework

Each week a new sound will be introduced in class.  Your child will copy four spelling words, and four common words into their homework jotter. I have broken spelling homework down to help you, but please feel free to complete it in a way which best suits you, and your child.

Wednesday Copy words out twice using ‘Look Say Cover Write & Check’ method.
Thursday Add at least 2 more sound rule words of your own.
Monday Write 1 sentence, using words from your list.
Tuesday Revise words for dictation on the Wed.

Neat presentation and layout will be encouraged, and commended.  Spelling homework should be completed and handed in by the following Wednesday.

Many thanks for your ongoing support.  Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via the homework diary, or at the end of the day.

European Day of Languages

Bonjour                Guten Tag            Hola               Halla                Hej

Our school will be celebrating European Day of Languages on Wednesday 26th September.  Our theme this year is celebrating how useful it is to know a second (or third) language.  We would like to invite any parents/grandparents who speak another language to come and speak to a group (not the whole school) of children to let them see how knowing more than one language has been useful to you.  If your first language is not English, it would be great if you could teach us a few words in that language eg. hello, numbers to 10 or how are you. If you are able to help, please leave a message at the school office for Mrs Ferguson P3F.

Merci                   Danke                   Gracias            Tak                    Tack

Homework Letters

Hi there

Homework letters have been issued today and are in your child’s book bag. I will also post the letter details on here. Word walls will also be given out to children next week.

P2 Homework Letter (P2G)

We hope that you have all had a super summer. The children are all settling in well to their new routines and we are all enjoying getting to know each other.

P.E. days will be Thursday and Friday, however we intend to participate in a daily mile and so it would be much appreciated if the children had the appropriate footwear and a waterproof jacket everyday.

Please see the table below for a detailed outline of homework tasks. Covering homework diaries and jotters would be most helpful, thank you. Book Bags should be brought to school everyday.

Day Homework Issued Homework Task Day Homework Submitted
Monday Spelling – words to be written out twice, neatly.   Add at least 2 of your own words using the same rule. Write one sentence with a spelling rule word and one sentence with a common word. Friday

Our Spelling Test and Dictation will be on a Friday morning. Results can be seen in the back of your child’s homework jotter.

Monday

Maths Activity Thursday of the same week.
Monday Reading – new books given out weekly. Friday. On Friday your child will hand in their reading book and their book bag will stay in class. They will receive a new reading book on Monday.

Encouraging your child to read a variety of texts will enhance and enrich their literacy skills. This can be absolutely anything that they are interested in: novels, picture books, recipe books, comics or non-fiction books. There will be plenty of opportunities for your child to talk about the books he/she has read. We really appreciate the time you take with your child to support their learning. Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks,

Miss Grant

Wet Weather in the Morning

Should it be wet in the morning before school, the infant doors will be opened by a staff member.  You are then able to send your child into the school building and your child will wait outside their classroom until the school bell rings.

Many Thanks,

The Primary Two Team
