Enrolment and Transfer to High School

Enrolment

In Renfrewshire Council, children commencing school in August must have reached the age of 4 years before the first of March of the same year. These children will normally register in the school in January, details being given in the local press. At the time of registration, information will be given of a parent’s right to seek a placement for their child in a school outwith their local area. It is expected that the P1 enrolment will be approximately 40 pupils each year. Pupils who have enrolled at the school are invited to attend the Induction Days in May and June prior to starting school. Meetings for parents are also held after children start school. Any parent living within or outside the catchment area of this school is invited to visit the school and speak to the Head Teacher, preferably after making an appointment.

Transfer from Primary to Secondary

Pupils are normally transferred between the ages of 11 years 6 months and 12 years 6 months so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least 4 years of secondary education. Parents will be informed of the arrangements no later than December of the year preceding the date of transfer.

Heriot Primary School has very worthwhile and effective liaison arrangements with Gleniffer High School (visit their website)which is the associated secondary for the school. The children visit their new secondary school in the summer term.
