Huge congratulations to everyone in Durrockstock house who were the winners of Term 1’s house treat! They enjoyed playing out side together with our new outdoor sports equipment. Well done!

Today we said farewell to Mrs Todd, our Senior Clerical Worker who is retiring after 24 years at Heriot. We have been so lucky to have her work in Heriot for so long and we will all really miss her. We had a wonderful assembly this morning where pupils: read poems they had created about her; presented her with a book of pupils’ drawings of her; sang her songs ; and told their memories of her.

Mrs Todd, you will be greatly missed but we all wish you a long, healthy and happy retirement!

At assembly today Mr McCrorie announced who had successfully applied to become the new House Vice-Captains. They are:

Brodie – Cameron Dickson

Durrockstock – Olivia Milton

Mr McCrorie was so impressed by all of the applicants that he has decided to make a new position within each House available. House Prefects will be added to help set a good example to all of the pupils within the school and to help House Captains and House Vice Captains when organising events etc. The following children have been chosen to be House Prefects:

Sponsored Jumping/Jogging/ Jammies Day!

Boys and girls had a wonderful time today taking part in our sponsored Jumping/Jogging/ Jammies Day.  All classes challenged themselves on our new Daily Mile track and faced up to their fears on the ‘Terminator Torment’ inflatable. We even had lots of parents joining in at 3pm which is always wonderful to see!

A huge ‘thank you’ needs to go to all of the parents and carers who have helped to make this event a success by helping your children to fundraise and by coming along for a go on the ‘Terminator Torment’ after school.

All money raised will be used to buy new resources which all pupils will benefit from and it looks like it is going to be another really successful year. Keep checking @HeriotPrimary on twitter for the total we have raised once we have it!

Today we came together as a school to celebrate all things Maths and to announce the winners of the Maths competitions we have been running as part of Maths Week Scotland 2017.

We had a winner in the competition where children were challenged to design a Maths poster/comic either celebrating why they love Maths or what the world would be like without Maths.

A huge ‘Well Done’ too to our Twitter competition winner in Primary 5!

Boys and girls (and teachers!) competed in their houses to answer Maths themed questions during our quiz.

It was lovely to see all of the boys and girls so enthusiastic about Maths and we will all be working hard to maintain this in the weeks ahead!

Today we were lucky to be visited by a published author, Ciaran Murtagh as part of his Finncredible book tour alongside Scottish Book Trust.

Boys and girls in P4-P7 were treated to a wonderful, funny and intriguing insight into the journey to becoming and the life of a published author.

Ciaran spoke with the boys and girls about the importance of caring about what you are doing and the positive impact that this can have on your ability to produce a positive end result. Pupils helped Ciaran to create their very own story using only a page from the dictionary and their ideas. Who knew they would end up deciding to write about ‘The Musical Mustard’ and making a very funny story in the process.

Boys and girls spoke afterwards about how much they enjoyed this visit and went away full of enthusiasm for writing.

As part of Maths Week Scotland 2017 P5 were chosen to attend the Skoobmobile to learn all about coding and to try out their new found skills on some games. This was a fantastic opportunity to explore coding and how it can be used within fun games and activities. All of the children commented on how fun this session was and we now have lots of pupils wanting to be ‘Coders’ and ‘Programmers’ when they are older! Thanks Renfrewshire Libraries!

Our friends at Montrose Day Care Centre very kindly invited our Primary 5 pupils along today to help them celebrate their 10 year anniversary. As you can see from the pictures below the pupils had a wonderful time as did Mrs Nixon and Mrs Gordon during the 1 hour live show! Thank you so much for inviting us!

A MASSIVE “Thank you” to our Parent Council who were successful in securing a grant for new football goals. Members of the Parent Council worked hard to secure the funding from the Local Area Committee and we are delighted with the new football goals that we have been able to afford to install with the money!

This term’s house points winners were Durrockstock House. As their treat they enjoyed a sports afternoon iusing the new outside goals and basketball hoops!
