Goodbye from Mr McCrorie March 2018

To all of the parents and pupils,

A huge thank you to you all for my wonderful send off today. I will miss you all and it has been my privilege to have had the opportunity to work with you and help you on life’s journey over the past few years.

Next week I will begin an exciting new chapter in my career as Acting Head Teacher in Bushes Primary in Paisley and do so with many wonderful memories from my time at Heriot.  Don’t underestimate the role you all play in helping to make Heriot Primary a welcoming and nurturing school and a wonderful environment to be educated within.

I wish you all good health, happiness and success in the future.

Best wishes

Craig McCrorie

Eco Clothes Recycling Event March 2018

Heriot Primary School and Nursery pupils raised an impressive £45 at their annual clothes recycling event on 9 March.

The Paisley school filled 25 bin bags with unwanted clothing, shoes, bags, belts, small jewellery and linen to raise funds for a ‘Big Spring Clean’ event in May.

The school provided the clothes to Nessie, a company that works in partnership with community groups across Scotland. Nessie provides the school with a clothes recycling bin and pays 50 pence per kilo of clothes.

Depute Head Teacher Craig McCrorie said: “Our pupils love getting involved in recycling and have really embraced this year’s challenge.

“It’s been wonderful to see children of all ages across the school getting involved along with staff and parents.

“We’ve held our recycling event for the past two years and use funds towards items such as paint, plants, soil, seeds and other materials which help us to contribute positively to the Eco Schools programme.”

The Eco-Schools programme involves hands-on, real-world learning about the environment, enabling schools to progress to earning an internationally recognised Green Flag Award which is renewed over the years.

Heriot Primary School and Nursery has held Green Flag Status for many years and has its own Eco Committee made up of 22 primary school students and two nursery students.

Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Policy Board, Councillor Jim Paterson, said: “It’s great to see Renfrewshire schools getting involved in recycling and particularly in the Eco-Schools Programme which gets the whole school involved in environmental projects.

“Well done to everyone at Heriot Primary School and Nursery for raising funds through this very worthwhile recycling event that will benefit others in our community as well as the environment.”

And the winner was…

Mr Nixon was delighted as were the rest of Brodie House!

A huge ‘Well Done’ to all of the finalists and auditionees and thank you to Miss Corr for organising a wonderful event! See you in 2019!

Glee singing at Piazza Paisley

Our wonderful Glee Club continued their Christmas concerts by singing at the Piazza Paisley on Saturday 16th December. Boys and girls (and teachers) gave up their Saturday afternoon to be one of only three schools to sing at this event. Shoppers were treated to some beautifully sung Christmas songs and carols and the children were wonderful ambassadors for our school once more. Well done Glee Club!

Nativity and Carols December 2017

Today we were treated to two wonderful performances of ‘Nativity and Carols’. Boys and girls across the school had been working hard and it was clear from their two performances that this had paid off!

We are very proud of all of our children and very thankful to have such hard working and talents staff as well as supportive parents and carers. Merry Christmas!

Healthy Wednesday November 2017

We had a wonderful ‘Healthy Wednesday’ today. A variety of activities were planned including archery, dance and the P6’s and 7’s even had a go at rock climbing. We are very grateful to our Active Schools coaches as without their help these activities would not have been possible.

Children also took part in a Daily Mile House challenge collecting as many points for their house as possible and they also looked at promoting good mental health in the classroom.

Here are some pictures of our day:

Halloween Disco 2017

Boys and girls had a wonderful time at our annual Halloween Disco! They danced, played games and had fun with their friends and looked ‘spookishly’ good! A huge thanks must go to all of the parent helpers and teachers who made this event possible and to all of the parents who supported of this event by bringing their children and helping them with their fantastic costumes!
