Bishopton Rocks!

The P2 masterclass have been getting in on the new Renfrewshire craze by painting and decorating rocks which they are going to leave around the village. They decided on a Minion and Monsters theme and they are amazing! If you find one of their Bishopton Rocks around the village, it is yours to keep! It would be great if you could bring it in to school to let us know. If you have a Twitter account, post a photo of it. Please tag us using @BishoptonPS. It will be great to see who ends up with these marvellous creations.

Author Visit P4-7

We had a fantastic author visit yesterday from Lindsay Littleston.  Children heard about her journey to becoming an author, she read an extract of her award winning novel, “The Mixed Up Summer of Lily McLean” and had a question and answer session with the children .

Children had the opportunity to buy “The Mixed Up Summer of Lily McLean” and “The Awkward Autumn”.  If your child still wants to purchase a book, please send their payment of £6 per book in an envelope with their child’s name and class by Monday 9th October.

Thank you

Mrs Campbell

First Minister’s Reading Challenge

All children will bring a Reading Passport home with them this week to allow them to take part in the First Minister’s Reading Challenge.  This is a National initiative and has been extended this year to include P1-7.  Children are being encouraged to read as many books as possible throughout the year and record this in their passport.  More information can be found at www.readingchallenge.scot

We appreciate your support and encouragement in this.

Maths Week Scotland – Thank you and Feedback

Wow, what an amazing week we have had! Every pupil has experienced a wide range of exciting and challenging activities to highlight the importance and relevance of maths and numeracy. We have thought about how, where and why we use maths in our everyday lives and had fun taking part in our Maths Day on Tuesday.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the local Co-op and showed a great enthusiasm for their homework tasks. Thank you to those of you who sent in and/or tweeted photos of the children using maths and numeracy at home. Pupils were playing Sumdog, interviewing parents, pointing out clocks, weighing and baking!

We think that the first ever Maths Week Scotland has been a huge success and would like to hear your feedback. Please leave a comment below or write a note to tell us what you think about how we did. Tell us what you and your children enjoyed and what we could do better next year.

When we look at the key messages of Maths Week Scotland, I think we definitely ticked all of the boxes:

  • Maths skills, understanding and confidence are important for everyone.
  • Everyone can ‘do’ maths; it’s a way of learning and thinking that we all use and can develop.
  • Maths ‘is everywhere’ and relevant to day-to-day life and work – decision making, problem solving, budgeting, planning, assessing probability and risk, and many more.
  • Being confident about and enjoying maths is about commitment and learning. It’s not ‘a gift’; it’s something we can all acquire if we want to.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing your feedback.

Kind regards,

Miss McDowall

BAE Systems are running an exciting design competition open to everyone at Bishopton Primary School to create a sign around the theme of safe driving and sticking to the speed limit when driving through the village.

The winning designs will be chosen by a panel of judges and turned into road signs that will displayed around Dargavel Village. The pupils who created the winning designs will also get a small prize and a framed version of their design.

All entries must be handed in by Tuesday 26th September (please ensure child’s full name and class is written on the back).

We are sure you will have lots of excellent ideas and can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Intergenerational Quiz 2017

This year, Primary 6 will be taking part in the intergenerational quiz, which is a Renfrewshire wide quiz aimed at challenging negative stereotypes surrounding age. Primary 6 pupils will be teamed up with an older generation to learn about different categories such as music, film and tv, foreign languages and Scottish history in order to compete in a final quiz in November.

We are looking for willing grandparents of the children of this school to help us take part. You do not have to have a grandchild in Primary 6 and you would be required for six afternoon sessions.

If you are able to take part could you please send a letter in with your child to be given to Miss Grant or Miss Altman in Primary 6.

It is sure to be a great learning experience and lots of fun!

Thank You

Miss Grant & Miss Altman

Maths is Everywhere!

Today we celebrated Maths Week Scotland by having a full day of fun and challenging maths and numeracy activities. We had five activities throughout the day with different teachers and ended with a Maths Relay with all of the P4-7 pupils. Everyone put in a great effort and tried there best.

One of the activities was looking at the importance and relevance of maths and numeracy in our everyday lives. We brainstormed ideas about where and when we use maths and then used these to draw them on a hexagon. Why a hexagon, you ask? Well, so that we could display all of our ideas together by tessellating them! I was really impressed with your knowledge of how maths is used in your lives. I think your drawings will show the whole school how and why maths is everywhere!

Walk to School competition winner

Last week we ran a competition to find a best poster to promote walking to school.

We had a hard time choosing as they were all fantastic! However we narrowed it down to one.

The winner is Jessica in P3S, who has won her class 5 minutes active play in the playground.

The poster will be displayed on the Travel Champions wall outside P6G for everyone to see.

Well done!

We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday with your inside out clothing!

The P2-7 pupils have been taking part in the Sumdog Contest which coincides with Maths Week Scotland. As part of our celebrations, we are competing against our cluster schools (Bargarran, Barsail, Inchinnan, Langbank and Rashielea). Try your best to answer questions correctly to help us climb the leaderboard!

Walk to School (13/9/17)

This year the Walk to School is back! Every two weeks, the Travel Champions will choose an item to wear to school that will count towards a prize if their class wins the Walk to School. To win, a class must have the most amount of children that walked, scooted, cycled or parked and rode that day.

This Wednesday’s theme is:

An inside out item.

Pupils can choose one item of clothing to wear to school inside out. Feel free to change later!

We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday!
