How to Beat the Summer Slide

Help us beat the Summer Slide with Sumdog! Research shows that over the summer break, children can lose over two months’ mathematical proficiency. P2-7 pupils have been using Sumdog in class and as homework and should have their username and password. It uses engaging games to encourage pupils, and automatically adapts to your child’s needs. To help beat this Summer Slide, we’d like you to encourage your child to play a little Sumdog each week. Sumdog will give on-screen rewards (100 coins) in each week your child does 30 minutes of practice.

Africa Fundraising total

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re having a super evening. Thank you very much for your support of Primary 2’s recent Africa Day. The children enjoyed creating the sustainable games and our visitors seemed to thoroughly enjoy playing them! Our African cafe was a huge success too – we definitely have some budding chefs among us.

I am absolutely delighted to announce that we raised over £400 on the day and this, coupled with the money raised by our non uniform day in April makes a grand total of £989.89!

I am absolutely blown away by this amazing total and would like to thank each and every person that has supported the project. The school community has contributed so much – in donations, equipment and time. I have now raised more than enough to make the trip to Uganda and I look forward to sharing the experiences with pupils across the school when I return in August.

Thank you again,

Miss J Cauley – P2 Class Teacher

Sustainable Africa – 12.06.18

Hello – just a reminder that tomorrow is our ‘Sustainable Africa’ carnival day!

All classes will be invited to Primary 2 at some point during the day to take part in the fun. On offer we will have games (created and hand made by Primary 2!), African food tasters and some super funky music to set the mood.

If you are able, please bring a donation. This will be collected when your class arrive at the carnival and in exchange you will be given some raffle tickets. These can be used to play the games on offer and will also entitle you to a snack.

We’re also offering you the chance to ‘Guess the Meerkat’s Birthday’ for an extra 20p. This will be available in the African café for those who want to try.

Thank you for your support of this project – I look forward to sharing my experiences with the children when I return to school in August!

Miss Cauley

The Scottish Engineering Leaders Award Public Exhibition

A massive congratulations to Ellie and Zak from P7 who have had their engineering solutions chosen to be displayed at the Barony Hall in Glasgow.

The pupils were asked to research engineering and interview a practicing engineer to inspire them in answering the question:

“If you were an Engineer, what would you do?”

They have been shortlisted after over 15 000 entries this year!

If you would like to attend the event on Friday 8th or Saturday  9th June, please click on the link below. I can’t wait to have a look at all their hard work on Saturday.

Walk to School Week 2018

You all may have had a visit from your Travel Champions last week to let you know about Walk to School week this week. The Travel Champions will visit you every day to count how many pupils in each class walked to school. Your special item will still be worn on Wednesday and this will be the funkiest shoes you have to celebrate the benefits that walking to school gives us. Remember cycling, scooting and park and stride are also included.

There will be an overall winner everyday and a winner from the full week.

Enjoy walking to school in the gorgeous weather we have been having!
