Christmas House Art Day 2021!

On Monday we had our Christmas house art day and what a lovely day it was! Pupils were looking fabulous – dressed in their house colours and feeling very festive, they brought a great energy to the day.

Our art day was themed around the Global Goals and we worked together to discuss how best to have a sustainable Christmas.

As well as creating our overall house displays, we created a variety of Christmas decorations from household items. We made cd baubles from CDs and DVDs, yarn Christmas baubles from wool and cardboard, and festive photo frames from lollipop sticks.

Have a look at our stunning Christmas Tree below, featuring all of our beautiful decorations! Let us know if you need the instructions to make your own.

Everyone worked very hard and had great fun! A massive thanks to our Primary 7 pupils who led a huge selection of festive games and crafts.

Thank you for all your support, donations and well wishes. Here’s to a festive December!

House Art Day

It’s that time of year again!

Our annual Christmas Art House Day is on Monday 29th November. Pupils will work together with their House peers from other stages to create a Christmas and Winter display.

We look forward to feeling festive and enjoying a day of expressive arts. This year, our displays will be themed around the Global Goals and pupils and staff will work together to learn how we can all have a more sustainable festive season, enjoy life’s simple pleasures and take responsibility for all that we can in our daily lives.

Pupils are asked to wear their House colours but they will be using a variety of art materials as well as glue and paint so they may get messy! Please do not wear your best clothes!

A reminder of the House colours:

  • Eagles – yellow or gold
  • Falcons – blue
  • Hawks – green
  • Ospreys – red

Thanks for all your support and donations – we know it will be a fabulous day!

House Art Day: Donations Wanted!

Hello everyone!

It’s almost time for one of the most festive celebrations in our school calendar – House Art Day!

This year, House Art Day will be on Monday 29th November and we need your help!

To highlight the importance of our climate and environment, pupils at Bishopton Primary will create seasonal displays entirely made of sustainable materials. We will base these on the Sustainable Development Goals (https://www.globalgoals.org/) and hope that we can continue to emphasise how we can make a massive difference to our planet by thinking global yet acting local!

Making these displays will be loads of fun, but to make them the best we can we really need the following things, so please – save them for us if you’ll be using them at home! You can either bring things in as and when, are collect things up and bring in a large batch whenever suits you.

*Cardboard boxes (cereal/muesli/porridge boxes are ideal)

*Unwanted Christmas tree decorations – plain baubles would be perfect, but we’ll take anything you have!

*Unwanted CDs/DVDs – we don’t even need the cases, just the disc would be fab

*Any unwanted scraps of material

*Any unwanted wool

Any donations should be handed in to your child’s class teacher.

Thank you so much for your support; we’re really looking forward to the day ahead! Please check back in later in the month for more information about the day.

Seasons For Growth

Good morning – I hope you have all had a lovely weekend.

This is a short note to confirm that our ‘Seasons for Growth’ program will be recommencing this academic session.

The program is for pupils that have experienced significant loss, separation or transition in their lives.

Themed around the four seasons of the year, ‘Seasons For Growth’ uses the transition between the seasons to equip children with strategies to help cope with changes in their lives.

From Wednesday 8th September, will be running the program for pupils in Primaries 2, 3 and 4 only.

If you feel your child would benefit from inclusion in this program, please contact the school office in the first instance.

Kindest regards,

Miss Cauley and Mrs McKay

STEM Day: Resource Appeal

Hello!

Our STEM Ambassadors have been working extremely hard preparing for our whole school STEM day on 14th February, creating plans, activities and tasks based on Global Goal 2: Zero Hunger.

In order to fulfill our plans, we need your help! If you could please collect for us any recyclable goods – for example, cardboard boxes, glass jars (washed out if you can 🙂 ), yoghurt pots, bottles and other goods.

We would also welcome any donations of old shoes, guttering, wood or anything locally or sustainability made.

If you could please send any small donations in with your child and they will be delivered to P2K, P4B or P7C. If you have anything larger you wish to donate, please drop it in to the school office and it will make its way to our classrooms. Alternatively, please contact us if you have anything you’d like to hand in, but are unsure as to how to get it to us.

As always, thank you for your support; it is very much appreciated and allows us to develop the ideas of our pupils.

Best,

STEM Ambassadors, Mrs Kane, Mr Burrell and Miss Cauley

Project 31: Sustainability Snaps

Hello everyone,

Following on from our sustainability day on Friday, here are just a few snaps of our team in action. During the day we created scarves and scrunchies from pre-loved pieces of clothing as well as running a variety of awareness workshops focusing on sustainable fashion and clothing production.

It was a brilliant day and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

Another huge well done to the members of Project 31 for all their efforts in organising and running the event, and to our fabulous house captains for their help and support during the day! We are very proud of you all 🙂

Seasons For Growth Day

Hello everyone,

Just a reminder that tomorrow is our ‘Seasons For Growth’ awareness day. Children can come to school dressed in their own clothes, wearing a colour or colours  to represent their favourite season. The suggested donation is £1 and money raised will be used to purchase resources for the programme.

Thank you for your support regarding this and we look forward to seeing and talking to your children about their favourite season!

Africa Fundraising total

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re having a super evening. Thank you very much for your support of Primary 2’s recent Africa Day. The children enjoyed creating the sustainable games and our visitors seemed to thoroughly enjoy playing them! Our African cafe was a huge success too – we definitely have some budding chefs among us.

I am absolutely delighted to announce that we raised over £400 on the day and this, coupled with the money raised by our non uniform day in April makes a grand total of £989.89!

I am absolutely blown away by this amazing total and would like to thank each and every person that has supported the project. The school community has contributed so much – in donations, equipment and time. I have now raised more than enough to make the trip to Uganda and I look forward to sharing the experiences with pupils across the school when I return in August.

Thank you again,

Miss J Cauley – P2 Class Teacher

Sustainable Africa – 12.06.18

Hello – just a reminder that tomorrow is our ‘Sustainable Africa’ carnival day!

All classes will be invited to Primary 2 at some point during the day to take part in the fun. On offer we will have games (created and hand made by Primary 2!), African food tasters and some super funky music to set the mood.

If you are able, please bring a donation. This will be collected when your class arrive at the carnival and in exchange you will be given some raffle tickets. These can be used to play the games on offer and will also entitle you to a snack.

We’re also offering you the chance to ‘Guess the Meerkat’s Birthday’ for an extra 20p. This will be available in the African café for those who want to try.

Thank you for your support of this project – I look forward to sharing my experiences with the children when I return to school in August!

Engineering Competition Success

Pupils from both Primary 2 and Primary 6 have been participating in Primary Engineer events throughout the year, with both classes learning how to build a moving vehicle. Primary 2 built a moving car and Primary 6 an electric vehicle. The children thoroughly enjoyed these lessons and today a small group of pupils from both classes attended a celebration event to meet with pupils from other schools and test their cars in a competition.

Our Primary 6 vehicle drivers did a super job climbing up the test ramp and also spoke with great confidence about how they created their design. Although they did not place in the final 2, they flew the flag high for the talents of Primary 6!

The vehicle designed and built by our Primary 2 team was the winner in the Apprentice 1 category. Pupils did a fantastic job explaining the details of their car design and enjoyed testing their vehicle on the ramp!  The pupils will now go forward and represent the school at the upcoming finals.

A huge well done to our representatives today and to the rest of our future engineers. You should all be very proud of yourselves, your can-do attitude and the fabulous vehicles you created!

Uganda Fundraising Update

Hello everyone! Following on from the ‘Chuck it in a Bucket for Uganda’ day before the holidays, I am absolutely thrilled to say that our school community raised an amazing £578 pounds! Thank you so much for your support in raising this fantastic amount and for your continued engagement in the project. I have really enjoyed speaking to the children about the upcoming visit and cannot wait to  share my pictures and experiences with them when I return in August.

Thanks again,

Miss Cauley

Cycling Proficiency

Good evening everyone! I hope you have had a fantastic holiday weekend so far.

This week we will be continuing with our Cycling Proficiency lessons – please remember to bring your bike to school on Wednesday. As always, you require a helmet to ride.

I was very impressed with your performance during Level 1 – you showed great skill and determination. Keep it up!

We have a fun, busy week ahead of us. Please remember to bring your library book to school tomorrow.

Spelling will be issued tomorrow morning. Words should be written out three times. Due to our Rookie Rockstar commitments on Tuesday and Wednesday you do not need to complete an MS task this week.

Reading:  Please read chapter 2 of Kensuke’s Kingdom. As this is a short week there will be no written comprehension homework but come prepared to discuss your opinions on the text on Friday.

Maths: We are learning about equivalent fractions; associated homework will be issued on Tuesday. In the mean time please revise your multiplication tables.

See you all tomorrow!
