Rookie Rockstars – Day 2

We had another fantastic session rocking out with Nick from Rookie Rockstars. We learned another two songs: Bullies Ain’t Big and Hey, Hey (I’m OK!). We practised the actions to the songs and played some air guitar along to the guitar solos. We even had some fun watching a rap battle between two pupils and two teachers! Please tell someone at home what you enjoyed most about today’s session.

If you want tickets but have lost the slip, please write your child’s name, class, House, which night you are coming and how many tickets you want. Remember you are guaranteed 2 tickets (£5 each) and can request extra which will be given out when all tickets have been sorted. Please put the exact money and request slip in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and class. Your child can hand it to their teacher in the morning or hand it in at the office.

Many thanks,

Miss McDowall

Rookie Rockstars – Day 1

Today we had our first session with Nick from Rookie Rockstars. We learnt two songs: I’m Glad To Be Me and Don’t Give Up. We also sung other classic rock and pop songs. The pupils had a great time singing, dancing, air guitar-ing, moshing and fist pumping to the songs. Please ask your child about what they enjoyed most about the session.

Thank you for the ticket orders we have already received. Could I request that any further tickets orders should be in for tomorrow, Tuesday 25th April? Please put the exact money and number of tickets you want (max. 2) in an envelope. If you want any extra tickets, please note that on the form too. The tickets cost £5 each.

The Eagles and Ospreys will be performing on Tuesday 2nd May and the Hawks and Falcons will be performing on Wednesday 3rd May. The performances start at 6.30pm in the Main Arena at Ingliston Country Club. Pupils should arrive in the arena from 6pm and no later than 6.15pm. We hope to see as many of you there to support your child and the school as possible.

Official Rookie Rockstars merchandise (hats, t-shirts, writstbands) will be available to buy at the event. We encourage the pupils to dress like a rockstar for their performance.

Thank you,

Miss McDowall

Rookie Rockstars Event

Your child was issued with a letter and ticket selection form today. Please complete and return it A.S.A.P.

Dear Parent / Carer

Rookie Rockstars – Tuesday 2 May & Wednesday 3 May : 6.15 – 7.30pm

As per our previous letter of the 16 February we have organised a whole school visit from Rookie Rockstars, a Music and Anti-Bullying Charity week beginning Monday 24 April.

As a culmination of the pupils hard work, a performance will take place in Ingliston Country Club on Tuesday 2nd May for all Eagles and Ospreys and Wednesday 3rd May for all Falcons and Hawks.  As we expect a high turnout for this event we will be limited to sell two tickets per family in the first instance and then on a first come first serve basis for any remaining tickets.  Tickets cost £5.00 which covers the expenses of Rookie Rockstars.  CDs of the songs will be available to pre-order and other merchandise will be available at the events.  £1 from every CD sold will help to raise money for the school funds.

Ingliston Country Club have very kindly agreed to host this event free of charge as they would like to promote community spirit. Palomino’s restaurant will be open before and after the event but they expect to be busy, so please book at least two weeks in advance and leave plenty of time for service.  They will also be opening ‘On the Hoof’ at 5.00pm offering hot snacks, filled rolls, cakes, pastries, teas and coffees.  This is an indoor facility and has a seating area with tables, although the arena is quite cold so dress appropriately.  Please see over for a map of where you should drop off your children to avoid congestion at the main entrance.

Please complete the tear off slip below and return with your exact money (in an envelope). Tickets will be distributed after the Easter holidays.

As part of Eco week all classes will be issued with an eco homework grid for children, this grid will be posted online to make it more eco friendly. The grid is posted below and pupils will be rewarded eco points for completing the homework tasks. Some teachers may also be issuing spelling homework and reading as normal.

Draw a small picture of each.

Find something in your house which is eco friendly.

Draw and explain what it is used for in your house.

Make a poster explaining how we can be more eco-friendly.

Write a poem about the eco code

Reduce, reuse and recycle.

Try to make a journey which you normally would by car using an eco-friendly mode of transport.

Comic Relief 2017

We have lots of exciting activities planned for comic relief! Red Nose Day is on the 24th March and we have planned activities throughout the week. All proceeds will go directly to comic relief.

On Monday we will be sending round a ‘Guess How Many Sweeties in the Jar’. This will be 10p a go.

In addition, throughout the week, we ask that any children who are willing to bring in an old toy for charity do so to be sent to a local charity shop. Can children send any donations to Miss Hamilton, Miss Frew or Miss Grant.

On Tuesday the P6’s will be holding a bake sale, each class will have a 10 minute slot to visit the sale and each item will cost 10p.

On Wednesday the P1-3 pupils will have the opportunity to have their faces painted. Consent forms have been sent out today regarding this. This will be 20p a go.

On Thursday, Primary 4 and 5 will have the opportunity to take part in a Danceathon for 20 minutes. This will cost 50p to take part.

Friday will be a non-uniform day and pupils will be asked to wear something red for Red Nose Day. There is a suggested donation of £1 for this.

Primary 7 will have the opportunity to guess the teacher from a set of baby pictures. This will be 10p a go.

We are looking forward to a week full of fun activities.

Secret Achievers!

Every week at assembly we ask the children to share any of their achievements from outside school. This could be reaching a new level at swimming, taking part in a chess tournament or being awarded a badge at Brownies.

We are aware that there are some children who do not share their achievements and we are asking for your help to ensure they are receiving the congratulations they deserve. It does not need to be related to a club or sport or winning award, you may think your child deserves recognition for other things they do outside of school. Perhaps they help their gran with her weekly shop each week or recently looked after their wee brother or sister when you were sick to help out.

At the bottom of this post is a copy of an achievement certificate that you are welcome to print off, complete and send in with your child (or hand in to the school office) and we can present it to them at assembly. We know there are lots of secret achievers out there who deserve to be recognised!

Thank you for your help!

Primary 6/7 STEM Club

Today we looked at renewable energies and then created a wind powered car. The group were given the materials list and then creatively developed their models.

Here are some pictures of their fantastic work which was all completed over lunchtime.

The videos of the testing were too large to fit onto the website so I will share them at the next session.
