Good afternoon everyone. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend and enjoying the beautiful weather. Due to parent’s meetings and it being a short week there will be no homework this week. Feel free to practise you times tables though.
Topic: Those of you who presented your personal project on Thursday have really set the standard high. We will continue with this on Monday and once everyone has presented I will post the photographs for you to share with your families at home.
Here are your reminders for this week.
P.E. will only be on Tuesday this week. Our P.E. session will again be with Primary 5H, therefore you do not need shorts or a t-shirt, however you will need trainers/gym shoes.
Please return the slip confirming you are able to attend your allocated parent’s meeting appointment as soon as possible.
No books this week as its a short week and we have parents’ nights Tuesday and Wednesday. We will get a book from our visit to Bishopton library. I will let you know when that has to be returned.

Please remember we finish on Thursday. Friday is an In Service Day.
Thanks to all our buddies for helping us make our Elmers out of milk cartons. Thank you for helping P2/1 as well. We love when our buddies come to visit. We’ll see you again soon. Primary 1F
Remember to complete each task to the best of your ability. Please let me know if you are struggling with any task or need advice, as soon as possible. Try not to get stressed or upset about homework – it really isn’t worth it! Ask your parent/carer to write a note if you are unable to attempt any task. Thank you.

Personal Reading Challenge – Throughout the year, please read extra texts on top of the class novels. Record what you have read and complete the tasks on the Personal Reading Challenge sheet.
Green Reading Group – You should be reading a book that you can finish in two weeks. If you are unable to finish it, it is either too hard or you are not enjoying it. But YOU chose it, so it is up to you to do something about it. Remember you should be choosing a book that is suitable for your reading ability – not too easy and not too hard! If you would like to check the reading age of your book, type the title into the search facility at http://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/
Maths
No maths! However, please feel free to practise the 72 Learn Its or use any of the useful Maths websites on the links below.
We would like to watch the film version of Holes on Wednesday 12th October. As this is PG, we need permission from your parents/carers. If you are not allowed to watch this, your parents/carers should write a note and I will arrange an alternative activity for you.
This week, P2/1 completed the final stage of their bunting craft and design project – decorating the bunting! They were given a wide selection of materials to use to decorate their flag and had to try and match up their flag number to the number of items they glued onto their flag.
The class worked well together to check the counting and number matching were correct. When they were finished, the class checked their flag against our project design criteria. The numbers had to be easy to read and be flags needed to be bright, colourful and appealing to other children.
When the glue has dried, I will take the flags home and sew them all together to make our amazing 0-10 counting bunting!
This week, P7S finished off their annotated drawings of their catapult designs and started to build them. Thank you to the groups who remembered to bring items in with them to create their catapult. If you are in a group who did not bring their materials with them, please remember to have them in for next week! This will be the only time available to build the catapult before the October holidays and you cannot change your design from the one on the drawings at the last minute!
We will try out the catapults when they are finished but will not be testing them properly until after the holidays so we can do it fairly and without being rushed.
Here are some photos from the catapult building session.
After the success of the prototype kite-flying last week, P5S got down to work on their final kite designs. This week they were tasked with creating a detailed annotated plan of their kite and writing a list of all the materials they will need. They made great progress with their designs. Once these are finished off next week, P5S will begin work on building their kites.
This week, P1M completed the final stage of their bunting craft and design project – decorating the bunting! They were given a wide selection of materials to use to decorate their flag and had to try and match up their flag number to the number of items they glued onto their flag.

P3H are continuing to make great progress with their juggling balls craft and design project. This week, they learned how to tie dye to give their juggling ball material an interesting pattern. The tie dye will be the background for their circus-themed drawings on the balls that they designed last week.
We learned about the different knotting techniques used when tie dyeing to give a different effect. The effects include: spots, spirals, stripes and grids. It is important to tie the elastic bands tightly around the fabric before dyeing as this is what stops the dye from staining the fabric and creates the brilliant patterns.
I thought I’d give you a little sneak peek of your tie dyed material. Next Thursday seems too long to wait to see how wonderful it looks. Here are the fabrics after having the extra dye rinsed out and then washed at a very hot temperature in my washing machine. They are looking fabulous! Unfortunately, I forgot to take gloves home with me for the washing so my hands are now very purple!
Next week, P3/2 will be creating new, and improved, lunchboxes for Mr Grinling. To help with this, we would be grateful if you could send in any empty shoe boxes, cereal boxes and any other materials our lunchbox designers think tfhey need for their design.
Over the last two days you have been presenting your Scottish Wars of Independence personal projects. For this task you were given the opportunity of presenting your research in any way you wished ………… and what wonderful ideas were on display!
We had models of the Wallace Monument, Stirling Bridge and a variety of castles, 3D maps, weapons and a very creative journey from Norway to Scotland. William Wallace in a kilt even appeared for a drama presentation. PowerPoints were created, posters were designed and research folders were produced. We even had a quiz to test everyone’s knowledge! Well done to each and every one of you. You certainly set the standards high.
Feedback for your presentations will be issued next week, from myself and one of your peers. Please remember to read your feedback carefully and act on it when you next present to the class.
Here are some photographs of you presenting and any models that were made.
We also took the time to look more closely at some of the models and their creators were able to discuss how they made them.
Elmer Day has been a great success. We have all had a fantastic time and have been very busy. We have been colouring patterns, creating Elmer masks, decorating Elmer biscuits, playing Elmer games and even playing different instruments to keep the beat to different Elmer songs. In the afternoon, the P7 buddies joined us and helped us to create milk bottle Elmers. They are looking fantastic! They will be coming home soon.
Today we began presenting our personal projects for The Scottish Wars of Independence. I was very impressed with the effort and standard shown today. Tomorrow we will complete the presentations and I am sure they will be just as good. Photographs will be posted soon.
Last week we had a great discussion in class after watching a Newsround report about the war in Syria. The children were very interested and asked lots of very good questions.
Some of the children were particularly keen to do more to try to help Syrian refugees. They made a poster about Syria and were keen to try to make a difference. They asked if we could possibly start a donation box.
We started our donation box on Monday and have just counted what we have already collected. We are absolutely delighted and very proud to say that we have so far collected over £24!
We will continue to collect over the following weeks and will begin to research the best way to donate this money.
We would like to watch the film version of Stormbreaker next week. As this is a PG, we need permission from your parents/carers. If you are not allowed to watch this, your parents/carers should write a note and I will arrange an alternative activity for you.
During our topic session today we learned all about the Declaration of Arbroath and the importance it had on Scottish society.
After individually completing the note-taking aspect of the task, each clan had to recreate their own version of the declaration. Can you tell someone at home some of the facts you learned today? Wow them with your knowledge!
Here are a few photographs of you hard at work. Keep scrolling to see the completed declarations.
The completed declarations have turned out incredibly well. Throughout our topic you have created some very high quality work and I am looking forward to showing it all off at our parents’ evenings next week. Please ask your parents to have a look at all your wonderful work. I am a very proud teacher!
‘Learn Its’ are addition facts and times tables facts. There are 72 Learns Its in total; 36 addition Learn Its and 36 multiplication Learn Its. These are facts that children need to learn off by heart, so when they are asked ‘What is 6+4 ?’ they are able to give the answer as quickly as they would be able to tell you their name. As soon as they know 3×5=15 they also know 5×3=15 (This is known as a ‘Switcher’).
Please work at home to make sure you really do know your Learn Its and your Switchers with INSTANT RECALL (no fingers!)
You will all receive a copy of these to glue into your Homework diaries, to ask an adult at home to help you practise these. Remember to mix up the order to really test yourself!
Primary 2H had a great time today making our ‘message in a bottle’ invitations to our open afternoon on Friday. If you could print your child’s name on the letter and sign if you plan to attend on Friday afternoon; I will collect the letters over the next few days. I will also continue to collect parents night appointment forms tomorrow.
Today we started our new maths topic, Time. To see where you are with your knowledge and understanding we recapped units of measurement, digital and analogue clocks. Please use the websites below to recap on time.
