Learning Profiles and Red Nose Day

Good evening,

I hope you have all received your child’s Learning Profile which I have sent today. Thank you to everyone who has provided feedback; I’m delighted that you enjoyed reading about your child’s learning. Please let me know if you haven’t received you child’s profile by tomorrow and I will aim to resolve this quickly.

Children have been reminded today that tomorrow is an own clothes day where they can wear red. Children have been asked to bring a £1 donation to donate to the Red Nose Day fund.

Red Nose Danceathon

Good evening,

We will be holding danceathons for Primary 4 and 5 tomorrow, as part of our Red Nose Day fund raising. Children may take part with a 50p donation and must dance for the allotted time of 20 minutes continuously. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow for some fund raising, fun, and exercise.

See you tomorrow!

Red Nose Events

As well as raising funds with Red Nose events this week, we have also been discussing the importance of supporting our local charities. One way in which we can do this is through donating to our local charity shops. This also supports the learning from the Eco Drama that Primary 2 took part in, which encouraged us to ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’. If you have an old toy which is no longer used and would like to donate, I will be collecting donations all week. Thank you to the children who have donated toys already, which I will distribute to charity shops within our community.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the bake sale today which raised funds for Red Nose Day. We raised a great amount of money and all had a great time munching the delicious cakes that Primary 6 made for us.

Tomorrow Miss Grant, Miss Frew and myself will be painting faces at lunchtime. This event is open for Primary 1-3 and children must have their permission form signed with 20p to take part. The children will have their lunch first and then go to P2H to get their face painted.

Have a lovely evening.

Week Events

Good evening,

Today we had our first eco event consisting of an assault course this morning. We also had half an hour to ride bikes and scooters; however, we had some issues remembering codes/not being able to work bike chains. Could I please ask that the children have the code of their chain written down and are aware of how to unlock their bike. Helmets must also be worn during our daily Big Pedal sessions.

Can I ask that all library books are returned to school tomorrow. I am aware that some of the children have already returned their books which is a great help. Book bags and homework will be sent home tomorrow as it was our No Paper Day today. As part of Red Nose Day events, we will be offering face painting on Wednesday at lunchtime at a cost of 20p. If your child has not yet returned their form indicating whether they have permission to have their face painted, this must be returned on Wednesday morning to allow them to take part.

We have been doing a lot of work on Fractions. As it is No Paper Day I have attached this weeks maths homework, which can be completed verbally at any point during the week.

Lastly, we enjoyed developing our Fairyland topic further with Health and Wellbeing and Expressive Arts today. The children took on the role of pirates and coordinated dance routines to pirate themed music.

Here are some pictures from our fun filled day!

Week Beginning 20.03.17

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

This weeks homework and news is as follows:

Reading – core readers this week. Please read a little each night. These will be issued on Tuesday, due to No Paper Day on Monday as part of our Eco Week.

Other News

This week is Eco Week and the children will be taking part in lots of eco activities in class.  Monday is a paper free day in class and as such homework diaries will not be used on Monday morning to write in the homework activities. Homework will consist of our usual spelling activities and reading and maths as mentioned above. We are also be taking part in the Big Pedal. Children are invited to bring in their bikes or scooters each day. We will make time each day to go outside and get on our bikes and scooters. Please be aware that children must wear a helmet when on their bikes and scooters. If the children do not bring a bike or scooter they will be encouraged to be active outside.

We also have Red Nose Day activities this week. On Wednesday P1-3 children will get the opportunity to have their faces painted. On Friday they will also be invited to dress in red and donate to comic relief with a donation of £1.

We will be returning to the library on Tuesday morning to return our books and allow the children to choose another book. If the children could bring their books in with them tomorrow, this will ensure that they are all ready to be returned on Tuesday morning. If you are able to assist us with our library visit please let me know.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone who attended our Fairyland Open Afternoon on Friday. I hope you all had a great time and the class loved sharing their learning and activities with you.

Miss Hamilton.

World Book Day

Primary 2H had a great day reading and also sharing books with their Primary one buddies. We really enjoyed hearing the teachers and children who read to us at assembly today. All of the costumes were great and well done to everyone for raising so much money, between their donations and sponsorship money.

Good evening

The children have received a new spelling grid today for their Wednesday spelling homework. There are a variety of new activities on the grid to enjoy. Our new sound this wee is i_e and we have used the following website in class within our spelling work: http://www.galacticphonics.com/longvowels/ie/ie.htm

Maths homework will be given tomorrow and will be on rounding to the nearest ten. Many of the children are keen to completed maths homework on Wednesday night and returned on the following day. However, it is absolutely fine for maths homework to also be returned on Friday mornings.

On Tuesday 7th of March we will be visiting the library to let the children choose a book. We are looking for two more parent helpers to join us on this visit. I will be checking the children’s diaries as usual tomorrow and Thursday. If you can help out could you please pop a wee note in you child’s diary and I will respond.

Finally, I am looking forward to seeing all of the children’s costumes on World Book Day after discussing Thursday with them today. Children can also wear pyjamas and onesies instead of a costume.

Thank you for your support of our teaching and learning in P2H.
Have a lovely evening!

Storyteller

We all enjoyed our visit from storyteller Susan Wilson today. We heard different fairytales, which were set all around the world. We also got to speak to Susan’s special friend Onion when he popped out of the treasure chest. The children have been enjoying their Fairyland topic and are looking forward to the activities in the next few weeks.

We had a great day today in Primary 2H.
