Term 1

P1 and P2/1

P1 and P2/1 had an amazing trip to the library to choose books for their class library and they also toasted marshmallows on a fire! They made a car with lots of loose parts for their transport topic.

P2

P2 have enjoyed their transport topic and have also loved making their wonderful Autumn  pictures using leaves!

P3/2

P3/2 have loved researching on the computer using Quicklinks Usborne, to find out about the Ancient Egyptian times!  They have also been designing bridges, using straws and 2D coloured shapes.

P3

The P3 class are doing an amazing topic on ancient Egypt and mummified a child. Take a look at the pictures below. The topic looks very good and I hope they are enjoying it.

P4

Primary 4 looked at the rainforest for their first topic in term 1. They each picked their favourite animal from rainforest and wrote a talk about them. They enjoyed doing fitness and hockey in P.E.

P5/4

Primary 5 enjoyed looking at the rainforest for there first topic in term 1. They each picked there favourite animal from the rainforest to present to the class.

P5

This term primary 5’s topic has been all about the rainforest and what animals live there. They also did a 2 minute talk about an animal of their choice that lives in the rainforest. The primary 5’s also did a lot of decimals.

P6/5

Primary 6/5 had a dinosaur topic in term 1. They enjoyed writing Millie Marotta illustrations.

P6

Primary 6’s topic this  term was WW2 and they made an explanatory text about it involving famous people. They also did a lot of simplifying fractions in maths.

P7 and 7/6

P7 and P7/6 have been doing their topic on WW2. They have done an explanatory text on famous people and World War Two and also presented talks about these people. In maths primary 7 and 7/6 used bar modelling to find fractions of quantity. Their novel is a book called holes which is about a guy who is really unlucky and is in the wrong place at the wrong time, because of this he went to a camp were a boy would go in bad and come out good.

Term 3 and 4 Class Blog Update

We went around the classes and asked the children what they have done over Term 3 and Term 4 so far.

 

P1 A and B

P1 have been learning about the farm and chicks. P1 have been keeping chick eggs in the class to look after also they went to the farm and had they all had a great day out. In maths P1 learned about symmetry, adding, and taking away, as well as that P1 have done sum-dog. P1 won a sum-dog competition out of the whole of Renfrewshire. In P.E P1 they done athletics/running they ran like lions also they did gymnastics some of the P1 were doing flips! In art, P1  painted scarecrows, then added straw from the farm. Next, they did French with Mrs Wyllie now they can greet people with bonjour. Paths has helped them to solve problems like arguing and to relax more.

P2

P2 have been learning all sorts of interesting things, like Art, Writing, Typing and have went on trips to the Science Center for topic. In ICT, they have done tux paint, an app on the computer that allows them to paint pictures and use materials they would not have access to in real painting/drawing. They have done Sumdog challenges and have used it to their advantage for class learning. In P.E, they have done gymnastics, but since Mr. Burgees sadly left, P2 have been doing Athletics. In maths, the pupils have been doing dividing and times tables. Occasionally, have used sumdog. In topic P2 have had many topics, Like Space and Science. The pupils went the Science Center and learned lots. P2 have also done Spanish and French with Mrs. Wylie. They have been doing paths, which is like life lessons and choices to make. The pupils have created fabulous pieces of artwork based on famous artists. P2 have had paired reading with the primary 7s to make them feel confident in reading by the primary 7s reading with them. They have also done writing but we don’t know what on.

P3/2 Blog

Primary 3’s topic this year was 1980s, they learned about all the history, fashion, all the rock bands and sometimes even listened to some of their songs. Their topic earlier on in the year was space where they learned about the solar system and all the planets in it. In addition, in maths they have learned about time, where they started learning about o’clock, half past, quarter to, quarter past. In PE they have done plenty of sports such as tennis, gymnastics, athletics. In tennis they learned how to dribble the ball on the racket, controlling the ball on the racket and learning to use the back hand and fore hand and what one is best for different situations. They also did athletics where they did different activities such as running, long jump, triple jump and shot put.

P3

P3 have been learning fractions and times tables. They have done really well with their times tables because they have learned them all. On I.C.T., they have been playing sumdog. They have been doing really well on it and soon they will be the best mathematicians in Barsail! Their topic is science and they have been to the science centre on a trip. In P.E., they have done athletics, running and gymnastics. They did really well in P.E. with Mr Burges. They have studied an artist called Piet Mondrian. In addition, they have baked some Malteser cakes. With Mrs Wyllie, they have been doing French and with the paths teacher they have been doing paths and feelings. They have done really well these two terms. Well done!

Blog P4/3

Topic- P4/3 are learning about the body. They have been using the I-pads to research stuff up about the body. They have also been listening to songs about the brain, the heart, the lungs, the stomach, the intestines, and the bladder. Hannah Clayton’s mum came in to teach them a little more about the human body. She brought in a mannequin and microscopes for the children to use! They created group posters about their chosen part of the body and showed them to the class.
Math- They have finished Division but they are still going back to Division every now and then. They are on Fractions and tables.
Language- When they did a Writing Challenge called The Three Raindrops (which they could change to The Three ?). They had to up level sentences and then type it up on Book Creator (an I-pad app). They have done all sorts of other stuff along with that.
P.E- The pupils have been doing athletics and ball games with Craig Kennedy. With Mrs Kellett (their teacher), they have been doing fitness from GoNoodle. They have been working very hard in gym this term so far.

P4 Blog

Topic-P4 have been learning about the body. They had a mannequin  puzzle and they had to reassemble the Mannequin. On the computers they found out about the small intestine and the big in intestine.  The brain sends messages all around are body. When are food goes into are body it can stay there for about two to three hours.
Math-In maths they have been learning about money. They have also been thinking about division. Also they keeping going over their tables.
Language- In language P4 studied the 3 raindrops. Also The P4 had to write a dream room from the nowhere  emporium and they up leveled their sentences.
P.E. – in PE the P4s done gymnastics also they done basketball. They all also enjoyed Football!

P5/4 blog

This term p5/4 have been doing a topic on Scottish wars of independence. They have bean learning about William Wallace and King Edward. They have been learning about the battle of Falkirk and also the battle of Stirling Bridge.
Primary 5/4 have been doing fractions and division in maths this term. They have really enjoyed having these subjects for maths.
In language P5/4 have been creating some instructions to make tea. And they have been learning onomatopoeia.
For physical education P5/4 have been playing some pick and mix and doing some athletics!
Primary 5/4 has enjoyed this term.

P5 blog

This term p5 have been doing a topic on Scottish wars of  independence. They have bean learning about William Wallace and king Edward. They have been learning about the battle of Falkirk, the battle off Stirling bridge, battle of Dunbar and many more.
Primary 5 have been doing expressions and equations in maths this term. They have really enjoyed this for maths.
In language p5 have been doing imaginative stories about little clips on YouTube that miss Wyllie has showed the class.
For P.E p5 have been doing athletics that involves running. They have also  been doing gymnastics with the wall bars and other equipment.
Primary 5 has enjoyed this term.

Primary 6

In maths, primary six have been learning measurements like, cm, mm, m, L, ml, cm3 ect. They have also been learning algebra, but they are currently learning volume. The class has 3 different maths groups (the pyramids, cuboids, and spheres). Their current novel is called ‘Little Bits of Sky, by SE Durrant.’ P7/6 and 7 are also reading this book too. In PATHS, P6 have been learning about making right decisions. They learned about Harriet Tubman who was a slave in South America and she rescued thousands of other slaves. They found out that if you make others happy then that makes you happy. In art, they planned, discussed and created bags, inspired by the famous designer and architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. P6 used strait lines, roses, small amounts of colour and it all came together. They learned to write their names in his alphabet style and wrote them on the back of the bags. P6 had a drop in and it went successfully. They sold the bags for £3.50 and made a profit of around £100. In homework P6 have been doing 12 spelling words and also doing reading journals which is 1 task per week. In music they have been doing ukulele which is a new thing for Barsail. All the classes are making progress. In P.E P6 have been doing bike ability and rugby on a Wednesday. P.6 have recently found out who their little buddies are going to be. They wrote letters to them and they are all excited to meet them. The pupils are going to start learning about science, which will be their new topic for this term.

P7, 6 blog

In maths, P7/6 learned about negative numbers, money and profit and loss. P7/6 are reading ‘Little Bits of Sky’ by S.E Durrant as their class novel. They will be starting choice novels soon. For Art, P7/6 Have done CRM for topic. They created bags and learned about his life. For Homework P7/6 did a 500 word writing challenge. For a trip P7 went to Loch Inch and they had fun. In Paths, Kristy came and talked to them abuot how to control emotions. On a Wednesday,  P7/6 are doing Rugby in PE.

P7 blog

Primary 7 have been working very hard this term. In maths, they have been working on algebra, profit and loss and they have been doing lots of revision on different maths problems. They have enjoyed doing maths through this year. For primary seven’s topic they have been learning about Russia and about the Russian revolution. They also have been learning a lot about the artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh, they created designs and drew them on bags. Primary seven have just started a class novel called ‘Little Bits of Sky’. They are really enjoying this book and cannot wait to read more of it. In Paths, a woman called Kristy came and talks to all of the P7 children about emotions and how we can solve conflict. Primary seven pupils have learned a lot from paths. This year all primary sevens went to Loch Inch and had an amazing time. In P.E, primary seven are learning how to play rugby. For homework, p7 have recently done a challenge where they had to write about their hero and they had to write 500 words. In music, primary seven have been learning how to play the ukulele and have been working on different musical notes.

 

The Digital Leaders

Digital Leader Workshops

The Digital Leaders have been running workshops for the classes and teachers today. We have showcased apps on the iPads, demonstrated Sway and Forms on Glow and given out ‘How to Use Guides’ that we created during our pupil groups. It has been a great success!

Running club

Well done to all of the children who took part in running club. Excellent effort and commitment has been displayed!

Trophies were presented to one girl and one boy!

Modern Languages Day 26th September 2017

On 26th September Barsail celebrated its first Modern Languages Day. The pupils were invited to dress up in Spanish/ French colours . Each class presented a short presentation on some aspect of French/ Spanish life and were invited to speak at the Assembly in front of the whole school. Everybody rose to the challenge and worked hard to make this a memorable day for all.

BASE

BARSAIL AFTER SCHOOL EVENTS (BASE) started this week. What a fantastic range of clubs we have on offer. Participation is high with several clubs already fully subscribed. We do still have some spaces available in clubs such as yoga, basketball and parent and  child fun fit! Gardening club is a community club with parents/family members/guardians and children working together to improve our school grounds.

David Bunting, Cutting Edge Landscape Gardeners, brought along a digger this week. Here is the link to a video advertising the positive changes that Garden Club has brought about:

Maths Week Scotland

Tomorrow is the last day of Maths Week Scotland!

We have a Scottish themed maths event taking place in the gym hall for every class to visit. The press and Numeracy coordinators from Renfrewshire Council will be visiting to see the maths in context learning taking place!

 

Sumdog Competition Closes

Absolutely amazing results in this national competition! 6 of our classes were in the top 100 in the whole of Scotland as the competition closed!!!! P4 made the top 10 and p7 were 15th.  Aaron in p7 was in the top 20 students in Scotland!

The leaderboard is based on the average score for the pupils in the class.

Every class took part and we surely must have won the cluster competition!!!  Not that we are competitive in the least 😂🎉🏆⭐️

More importantly, the children have answered 1000 maths questions each and have had FUN in the process!

Well done everyone!!!!!
