Fabulous Barsail Ambassadors

A big thank you to our fantastic House Captains and Vice Captains who showed great leadership and maturity as they supported staff at Parents’ Evening this week. The children received many positive comments from parents’ and staff on their organisational skills and lovely manners.

Happy Holidays

Happy holidays to you all.

We would like to say a fond farewell to an amazing Primary 7 year group as they continue on their journey to Park Mains and to Boclair Academy.  An emotional assembly performed by P7 for parents and for P1-6. We have celebrated your successful year as Big Buddies, panto stars, House Captains and Vice Captains, as league winning footballers,  with Burns recital achievements and a medal winning chess player to name a few! You should be very proud of the children you have become. Always remember to Dream Big, Aim High and Achieve More!!

Barsail have a great holiday and we hope that the weather is kind to you.

Thank you for the support you have shown us throughout the session.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back for new session on Thursday 15th August at 9.00 a.m.

Application for Free School Meals and Clothing Grants

Applications for free school meals and clothing grants are now open. By applying for either or both provisions now parents can ensure everything is in place ahead of the new school year.

Parents must make sure their application is received by the council no later than Friday 12 July to guarantee payment of clothing grants before the schools go back or to have free school meals from the start of term.

Those parents who have previously applied for free school meals and clothing grants will be sent a letter to their home address. If there has been no change in your family circumstances that affect any benefits you may receive, you can complete and sign the declaration form and return it to the council.

If there has been a change in your family circumstances or if you are applying for the first time, visit www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmealsandclothinggrants to complete an application form. You will also be able to read about eligibility for free school meals and school clothing grants as well as what information you need to include with your form.

  1. Paper copies are also available for our school and from the Council’s customer service centres.

Meet our PATHS Pals

Today our Primary 6 pupils who are trained PATH Pals received their certificates at assembly.

This fantastic group of children were successfully interviewed and trained by Mrs Paton, one of our Classroom Assistants and Kristy Fortheringham our PATHS coach.

Red Nose Day 2019

Red Nose Day

We will not officially be participating in Red Nose Day next week as it is not one of our chosen charities for this session. If the children  have a red nose etc, they are welcome to wear them on Friday to show their support of the such a wonderful charity.

Renfrewshire Sumdog Contest

Renfrewshire Sumdog Contest – 8th to 14th March

Barsail has been entered into the Renfrewshire Sumdog Contest which runs from 8am on Friday 8th March until 8pm on Thursday 14th March

To take part, simply play Sumdog’s maths games. If you do not have your Sumdog Username and Password, please ask your teacher. Scores are based on accuracy, and questions tailored to your level – so everyone has a fair chance.

To make contests fair every pupil is limited to 1000 questions. However, it’s fun to take part even if students only answer a few questions.

The motivation is to climb the leader board and beat all other participating schools within Renfrewshire. You can also win rewards for your Sumdog account.

The Big Pedal 2019

This year Barsail has signed  up to do the Big Pedal again.

The JRSO pupil group told the children at assembly today. The Big Pedal is from 25th March until the 5th April 2019. Children and staff will be encouraged to cycle or scooter to school from March the 25th.

Thank you

The Barsail JRSO Team

Trim Trail Repair

Sportsafe fixed our broken Trim Trail today. A massive thank you to the Parent Council who are paying for the repair to get completed.

Primary 2 interviewed the Sportsafe workers and asked lots of questions about the repairs. The children were excited to know that when the weather is better the Barsail children will be able to get on the Trim Trail again.

Chess Club Success

Well done to our brilliant chess team.  On Saturday February 9th the chess team of Oscar , Lewis and Ben won gold ! A fabulous achievement.

The boys showed off their medals at assembly this morning.

Mr McQueen takes our school chess club every Friday at lunchtime.

Barsail and the Big Pedal

Barsail are taking part in the Big Pedal and would like to encourage the children to scoot or cycle to school until Thursday the 3rd of May.

The children can bring their scooters or bikes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. They can be chained up on one of the bike racks. There is a bike rack outside the P2 classroom and another two outside the P7 classroom.

P6 have cycling proficiency on a Wednesday so we would not advise the children to bring scooters or bikes on a Wednesday.

The children should wear a helmet and dismount once they have entered the school playground.

Happy cycling and scooting

School Paths

You may have noticed that the path beside Barsail has been flooded. The janitor has reported it to the council and they are going to clear the drains in that area. A small piece of fencing will be removed temporarily to allow this to happen. The fence will be replaced and the gate repaired in this part of the playground.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Barsail has got Scottish Talent

Wow, lots of talented Barsail pupils auditioned for the upcoming Scottish performance.  The standard was very high and we were really impressed with the children’s enthusiasm.

Unfortunately not all of the children will be able to perform their acts on the day but they should all be very proud of themselves for giving great performances.

All the successful performers will find out next week at assembly.

With all this amazing Barsail  talent and class acts, the Scottish performance will be braw!!

P6 Work Experience

P6 children were invited to spend the 8th of June at a work experience placement. The children had a wonderful time and relished the challenge, some were even paid for all their hard work!

We received fantastic feedback from Parents and children. The children were able to experience some of the skills required for the workplace and explore their strengths. Well done to everyone who was able to take part, we understand it wasn’t convenient for all.

Thank you for your feedback.

STEM P7 & P7/6

Girls from P7 and P7/6 were invited to fantastic day of STEM workshops at the University of the West of Scotland.

The girls listened to inspiring young woman who are making their mark on the STEM industry. This experience challenged assumptions surrounding STEM careers and showcased the vast opportunities available. It informed the girls of responsibilities and duties placed on employees and employers in the workplace.

We had a wonderful experience, we carried out experiments, engineered apps and worked in robotics. Thanks Mrs Mavers for organising this for us!
