Standards and Quality 24-25

Standards and Quality 24-25 year

What is it?

  • These reports are a self-evaluation document for each school, assessing its effectiveness in delivering quality education.
  • They measure progress against the school’s own improvement plans, which are informed by the National Improvement Framework.
  • The reports are also influenced by findings from external evaluations, such as inspections by Education Scotland (HMIE) and Care Inspectorate.
What do they cover?
  • Attendance:

How often pupils attend school, with analysis of authorized and unauthorized absences.

  • Attainment:

Progress in core subjects like literacy and numeracy, often compared to national and PKC averages.

  • Wider Achievement:

Opportunities for pupils beyond academic subjects, such as clubs, events, and partnerships.

  • Quality of Learning and Teaching:

How staff are supported in their professional development and how learning environments are designed to be inclusive and supportive.

  • Leadership and Management:

The effectiveness of the school’s leadership team in driving improvement and change.

  • Partnerships:
The collaboration between schools, parents, families, and the wider community to support learning and well-being.

What is a Self-Evaluation Report?
Key Components of School Self-Evaluation in PKC
Internal Self-Evaluation:
Schools conduct their own evaluations using national frameworks, often focused on specific areas like health and wellbeing or learning, teaching, and assessment.

External Validation:
The process is supported by external scrutiny from the Perth and Kinross Council’s Quality Improvement Officers (QIOs) who review self-evaluations and highlight areas for improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement:
Self-evaluation involves gathering views from various stakeholders, including:

  • Pupils: Through surveys, focus groups, and direct dialogue.
  • Parents: Via the Parent Council, surveys, and individual conversations.
Data Analysis:
Schools and the local authority analyze data on attendance, achievement, and attainment to identify areas where performance can be improved.

Improvement Planning:
The findings from self-evaluation directly inform the development of school improvement plans to ensure continuous progress against local and national priorities.

Focus on Quality Assurance:
This structured process of evaluation, data analysis, and professional discussion is a key part of the local authority’s broader quality assurance framework.
