The Papay School Visitor Book Box Trail (and New Bicycles!)
This year the children (and staff) are working towards their second level (Explorer) John Muir Award. The John Muir Award has four challenges – related to Discovering, Exploring, Conserving and Sharing your place. This year, one of our main projects aiming at ‘sharing’ Papay with others is to create a ‘Visitor Book Box’ trail. We’ll be placing 6 visitor books at key sites on Papay throughout the Spring, and hope to produce a leaflet for visitors to the island – showing where each of the boxes are. The pictures below show our recent trip to place our first visitor box at the Knap of Howar.
You may note the shiny new bicycles that the children are riding in the photos. We recently received these following an application to the Bikeability Scotland Cycle Fleet Fund. It took a while for the bikes to arrive due to order backlogs, but now that they are here we are delighted with them. We’re aiming to use them at least once per week through the summer term as one method of ‘exploring’ Papay.
