Restore the Shore – Cassie Sea Wall Building Near the Kelp Store.
In the final week of term we had a visit down to the Kelp Store, where we performed our Seaweed Survey back in September, link. The shoreline to the north of the Kelp Store has been gradually eroding over a period of time so the Papay Ranger had organised a community effort to build a traditional Cassie Wall sea defense. It’s hard work with lots of heavy lifting so we only stayed for a little while to get a flavour of how it works. We did help to place a few stones filling a gap approximately 1m wide.
A highlight of the trip was a chance to see Jonathan’s drone. We watched as he brought it down from over 200m up in the air, to land just a few metres away.
