Chinese New Year

This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year.

We found out that Chinese people decorate their homes with paper laterns so we decided to make some too.

We also got to taste some fortune cookies and find out our fortunes!

I learned that each year is named after an animal.  I was born in the year of the dog – Hannah Welsh

Chinese people use brooms to sweep the bad luck from their homes before the new year – Tegan Cooper

Knives are not allowed to be used on the day of the celebration because it is bad luck – Ellie Ness

Children get money and sweet in red envelopes because red is a lucky colour – Mariana Ali

I liked making the lanterns because I learned how to write Happy New Year in Chinese – Emma Rankine

My fortune was ‘You will find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow’  I hope this comes true! – Declan Bass
