Last week Primary 5 took part in a variety of STEM activities!
On Tuesday we focussed on science; we constructed and tested hoop gliders and experimented with different design variables. After that they journeyed through to Primary 6 where they made ice cream in a bag using salt and ice.
On Wednesday the focus shifted to Technology. Primary 5 had the opportunity to go on a variety of coding websites such as Kodu and Scratch in ICT then, later that day we created a Lego maze and wrote out the code to help our character navigate the maze successfully. Following that Primary 5 created trailers for their own movies using iMovie. They were absolutely brilliant!
On Thursday we looked at engineering. First of all Primary 5 learned about what causes earthquakes and discussed the challenges earthquakes face to building engineers in countries that lie along fault lines. We investigated the strongest shapes (we discovered that triangles are the strongest) and then designed structures that would hopefully withstand our jelly earthquake. Huge congratulations to Jessica who had the strongest and most earthquake-resistant structure. ย After that Primary 5 constructed bridges using spaghetti and rubber bands.
Finally, on Friday, Primary 5 weโre using tangrams to tell the story of the three little pigs and learning about the Fibonacci sequence.

Apologies that it took so long to get this blog up, as you can see there were a LOT of photos to go through!
