Christmas Nativity Costumes

This year in the Christmas Nativity our class are going to be dressed as camels, and not just any old camels but FUNKY camels!ย  The school will provide the children with a yellow t-shirt and we will be making camel headbands in class.ย  It would be really appreciated if everybody could bring in a pair of black trousers or leggings and any ‘funky’ accessories that you have.

Wednesday 13th November

Mr McMullan has asked that students in Primary 5 bring some extra outdoor clothes and shoes/wellies to help him plant some trees tomorrow.ย  Children should come to school dressed in their school uniform with the spare clothes in their bags.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

A huge thank you to everyone who managed to come along to the Macmillan coffee morning today, what a great sum of money that we raised!ย  The children were really proud of their performance, what fantastic singers we have – I’m looking forward to the Christmas nativity already!ย  If you couldn’t make it I managed to get a video of the children singing both songs that you are welcome to pop in and see.ย  Unfortunately I can’t seem to upload them onto the blog as they are too long.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‘ท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ STEM week ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ’ป

Last week Primary 5 took part in a variety of STEM activities!

On Tuesday we focussed on science; we constructed and tested hoop gliders and experimented with different design variables. After that they journeyed through to Primary 6 where they made ice cream in a bag using salt and ice.

On Wednesday the focus shifted to Technology. Primary 5 had the opportunity to go on a variety of coding websites such as Kodu and Scratch in ICT then, later that day we created a Lego maze and wrote out the code to help our character navigate the maze successfully. Following that Primary 5 created trailers for their own movies using iMovie. They were absolutely brilliant!

On Thursday we looked at engineering. First of all Primary 5 learned about what causes earthquakes and discussed the challenges earthquakes face to building engineers in countries that lie along fault lines. We investigated the strongest shapes (we discovered that triangles are the strongest) and then designed structures that would hopefully withstand our jelly earthquake. Huge congratulations to Jessica who had the strongest and most earthquake-resistant structure. ย After that Primary 5 constructed bridges using spaghetti and rubber bands.

Finally, on Friday, Primary 5 weโ€™re using tangrams to tell the story of the three little pigs and learning about the Fibonacci sequence.

Apologies that it took so long to get this blog up, as you can see there were a LOT of photos to go through!

Autumn Walk

Today we went on an Autumn walk.ย  Whilst we were out, we took some notes on what Autumn looks like, what colours we see in Autumn and what the weather is like in Autumn.ย  We also found lots of chestnut trees so we spent some time rummaging through the leaves to find conkers.ย  Then we returned to the classroom and created some Autumn poems.ย  The children had so much fun they asked if we could create a poem on every season!

Just a quick reminder that our ‘Meet the Teacher’ night will be taking place on Thursday 19th September (this Thursday).ย  This is an informal occasion to give you the chance to meet myself, visit your child’s classroom and get an idea of the kind of activities that we will be doing this year in primary 5.ย  I’m looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it!
