This morning Primary 5/6 went on a walk to hide our Remembrance rocks. Whilst we were in the Remembrance garden, we took part in the two minute silence at 11 o’clock to remember the soldiers who sacrificed their lives so that we can be free today.
Mrs Davidson was in Primary 5/6 this morning teaching us about how to punctuate direct speech and about carroll diagrams in information handling. This afternoon we made the finishing touches to our rocks and did some yoga.
We are planning on walking to the remembrance garden tomorrow so please make sure that you are wearing a waterproof jacket and suitable shoes.
Today we have been learning about remembrance. We have learned that the reason people wear poppies around Remembrance Day is because of the poem ‘Flanders Fields’. Additionally, we have heard the stories of several Scottish people who fought in the Great War, including the story of a young boy who came from Cumbernauld. In preparation for Remembrance Day on Wednesday, we have decorated some rocks which we are going to leave around the local area to help people remember all those who sacrificed their lives so that we can live ours.
In literacy we were working on our inference skills or, in other words, our ability to read between the lines. We did really well and gave some well thought-out answers.
This afternoon we formed our salt dough diya lamps 🪔 I think they look fab!
To end the day we did a little more practise on the days of the week in French. We will be moving on to learning the months of the year next week.
Phew – what a busy day! Have a great weekend everyone!
Primary 5/6 have had a very busy day today! Firstly we were learning about the history of bonfire night; we learned the who, what, where, when and why behind the gunpowder plot. Following that, we learned about firework safety and we brainstormed ways to keep ourselves and others safe.
This afternoon we made salt dough as tomorrow we are going to create diya lamps to celebrate Diwali 🪔
Have fun tonight, whether you are having a mini fireworks display in your garden or simply watching them out of your window. Most importantly, be safe! 🎇
Today Primary 5/6 have had lots of fun celebrating Halloween. The children all look absolutely fantastic in their costumes and have completed a variety of activities such as making Halloween fortune tellers (which are very popular in the class at the moment!) and decorating biscuits. Here are some photos of our day so far:
This afternoon we finished off our haunted house art. Primary 5/6 put a huge amount of effort into creating our designs and I think they look brilliant!
