Today Primary 5/6 began a new Big Reading book entitled ‘The Song of Sky and Sand’.Β Chapter 1 has been allocated to all of the children’s Active Learn accounts, should you wish to read it together at home.Β This afternoon we moved on to practising our times table of the week (the 3x table).Β We played the following supermovers song to help us learn it, which you can practise at home.
After working hard in their reading and subtraction lessons, Primary 5/6 got into the Christmas spirit by making paper chains to decorate our classroom. It was great fun! π
Primary 5/6 were working on their reading skills this morning. They were asked to skim and scan a text in order to locate specific information. We did some great work! ππΌ
This afternoon we were working on our subtraction skills and we also practised our Christmas song. Iβm amazed at how well everyone is doing – I can see lots of practise has been happening at home! ππΌ
Happy Saint Andrew’s day everyone!Β Today Primary 5/6 were introduced to the song that we have been asked to learn for the Christmas show.Β We will be learning how to sign the lyrics in British Sign Language.Β Our song is ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ and we made a good start this morning on learning the moves.Β It would be great if everyone could practise at home too!
Recently, whilst in the playground doing gym or the daily mile, Primary 5/6 and I have noticed how much litter there is in the playground and just outside the school – so this morning we decided to do something about it! Primary 5/6 managed to collect lots of litter and it looks much better now! ππΌ

Today Primary 5/6 were working on developing their characterisation in stories. One group was brainstorming adjectives that could be used to describe a troll and the other group was looking at the difference between direct and indirect character descriptions. We learned that indirect character descriptions are more interesting for our readers and we were practising writing these.
Today Primary 5/6 had (a very soggy) outdoor P.E. lesson. The class enjoyed it but I was glad to get back into the warm again!
In literacy we were working on our summarising and inference skills and we used the Pixar short film, βFor the Birdsβ, to discuss the impact that bullying can have. In maths we were practising our formal addition skills and everyone did fantastically well.
Today we were learning how to use inverted commas, or speech marks, to show direct speech in our writing. We also had our weekly yoga session and hung the last of our Diwali lanterns.
